Ok guys so here's the run down, i've been using w7 since build 7000 (updated to build 7100) and i managed to get a free copy of windows 7 ultimate signature edition, went to install that, and during installation it got stuck at the completing installation phase, right after it resizes the screen. I let it run overnight to see if it was just non responsive for a while, no go. Since then I've tried the 32bit, the 64bit version, i've tried with a single stick of ram, with only my 750gb hard drive in, no usb devices plugged in (even used a ps2 keyboard), no lan and I've tried swapping the video card to radeon x300. I've also retried now with an MSDN copy of professional x64 still no luck, everytime it hangs at pretty much the same place....
Any bios settings that 7 install perticularly likes? I remember i've reset my cmos since I used w7 build 7100. Other than that the system is pretty much identical with no alterations that I can think of... this is driving me nuts! btw its always been clean installs that i've been doing. I've spent two full weekends trying to get my pc ready for this lame microsoft party and I can't even get it to install! If anyone knows what i'm doing wrong or a magical fix i'd really appreciate it:)

Have you tried installing say Vista or XP to see if the same problem occurs with either one of those. Not sure if it would prove anything, however, it would at least give you some ideas. Also if you are able to get one of those installed you may be able to do an upgrade, or even a clean install off of one the fore mentioned OS's.

You say 7100 installed and ran fine. Strange the RTM would not work. Are you certain the copy of Ultimate you got is good?

If you did a clean install, did you format the drive prior to installing, the small and larger partitions?

Try copying the files to another partition and running the install from there.

I have REREAD your original post.
1. i'd leave all the ram installed.
2. NO USB Devices installed - recommended due to Win 7 thinks they are HDD's
3. BIOS set to DEFAULT.
4. ps2 keyboard and mouse
5. THE BIGGEST THING I CAN THINK OF: you say
and during installation it got stuck at the completing installation phase, right after it resizes the screen.

I'd try using a normal computer monitor. with ratio at 1240 or 1480.
NOTHING TO LOOSE. and every thing to gain.

The free Signature Edition is a retail copy and is supported by MS. The phone number is on the disk.

I consider MS tech support as valuable as the OS, since they will get you through anything. I got an entire education in troubleshooting, optimizing and debugging over 10 years with a single copy of XP home retail.

any news guys now that its released any other people reporting this issue?

Did you call MS tech support at the number on the disk. Sig Edition is retail and therefore comes with support. I have one and have already called about several things.

They will resolve any issue such as this, even elevating to a research team if necessary.

MS tech support is not like most; they spend much, much more money on it.

no I removed my sound card and tv tuner, set my sata controller to AHCI mode and it installed no problem, but now every so often I get lock ups that seem to be related to my Lan driver :/ Its a P5K motherboard, anyone have any suggestions?

Disable the NIC in the bios if it is onboard. If it is a card then remove it.
