I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and for some reason, the Internet has stopped working sometime during the evening on the 20th of July in 2016 after I unsuccessfully tried to fix Just Cause 2 by changing a setting for Data Execution Prevention from "turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" to "turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:" and I selected "Just Cause 2" and its shortcuts and I restarted my laptop for the changes to take effect (I will explain this problem further in another thread). It now sometimes says connected or limited access but unidentified network and no Internet access. I don't know why the Internet stopped working after that.

The Internet only works in Safe Mode with Networking but not in normal mode.

I right-clicked the Wireless Connection icon, clicked "troubleshoot problems" and the Windows Network Diagnostics troubleshooter loads and tries to troubleshoot the problem for a few seconds and it then tells me to turn off the modem for 10 seconds and then turn it back on.

I've tried that multiple times, System Restore, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and maybe Panda Antivirus to no avail.

I don't have this problem on my iPad, my phones and some other devices, only on my laptop.

The Internet sometimes works for a few seconds or minutes after I restart my laptop but then it stops working again.

I don't want to have to buy a reinstall Windows 7 or buy a new laptop or computer.

Can you please help me fix the Internet on my laptop as soon as possible?

Hi PK2,
Sounds more like you game caused the problem.
Revert the DEP settings, hopefully that will give you your internet back.
If that fails try your OLDEST restore point.

You will NOT have to buy W7 again, your comp has a factory restore option, possibly in the Dell program files, or via your Bios.

Im assuming your other problem is a BSOD.
Go Control panel >> device manager >> update your graphics card and Network adapters, and are there any marked with an ! or a small black down arrow or Problem devices.

Your getting a 169 ip which means the pc isnt getting an ip from the router this normally wrong password or too far away from router. Open a admin cmd prompt then type
netsh advfirewall reset
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ipv4 reset

I agree 169 is not right, and no default gateway is listed.

Subnet mask looks wrong too. I think it should be 255.255.255.0

Have you plugged into your router with a cable ?

I tried plugging the yellow Ethernet cable into my laptop but unfortunately, the Internet still doesn't work. I'm using the NBN just incase you wondered.
