Hi,

I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit yesterday. After finishing installing Windows, I then, of course, started getting on with some drivers.

But then the problem came. While I was waiting for driver to install itself, I tried running WMC. It seemed working for 2 seconds then everything went blank and I had to reset my computer.

Then WMC never starts again. Is there anyway to solve this, please?

Thank you

PS. I'm not sure what I was installing when I ran WMC, and I'm not sure if that could have crashed WMC.

AH,

Its a bad idea to run programs when installing anything, especially drivers.

What driver were you downloading at the time.

Your systems specs would be of great help.

I was probably installing Catalyst 9.10 I think. Here's the specification

Intel Core i7 860
Asus Maximus III Formula
G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz (4x2Gb)
Asus EAH5870
NOX Krypton 1000w
WD 1TB Caviar Black

Is there any other solution besides System Restore though?

Is the Catalyst 9.10 the beta driver?

If it installed look in Programs and Feature and use RevoUinstaller to uninstall it:
Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download

If it is the beta, I Wouldn't recommend it at this time

Could you give us the exact make and model of your video card?

Go to Control Panel > device manager and see what shows up under display

It is not beta, full version is released. I don't think it has anything to do with my devices as well, I think something crashed during installation. I might be wrong. Here's the card anyway:

ATI Radeon HD 5800 series
ATI HD5870: DDI version-10.1, Driver Model: WDDM 1.1

thank you

One hard drive?

I have three hard drives in my system. I had issues dual booting between the two that had Os's on them. Once in awhile the system would loose it's ablity to boot from the 7 disk, while XP had not problem.
It wasn't untill I disconnected the XP drive and the Storage drive before installing 7 that 7 booted consistantly. I still havn't figured this out but it worked for me.

But then again, if you only have one drive... Well thanks for reading.:)

ATI advertises the 5800 Series does have support for Microsoft DirectX 11, but I am fairly sure your TV Tuner is closer to DirectX 9...

To see, run DxDiag (32 bit and 64 bit reports available)

From start menu type dxdiag>hit enter
above you will see the utility, run it and make you select the WHQL and 64 bit check boxes as appicable.

boxes are checked but wmc still can't work :(

System restore should have fixed the issue, unless someone was ill advised to turn that very important feature off.

Let us know how the re-install goes and please report back if the same issue occurs again.
