I have an Acer Aspire as well as an HP Compaq Presario (both running Windows 7). Both have had this problem, though the HP only happens every now and then. Now, on the Acer when I save an image/file/folder/etc to the desktop and then decide to delete it, the content is deleted but the icon stays. I have tried rebooting the computer and it does not work. The only way I can get rid of them is to create a new image/document/folder with the same name and then using the "Shredder" to delete them permanently. The shredder however is only temporary, in fact I can only use it 14 more times. Has anyone else encountered this problem or have a solution? Thank you for your help.

Dear cwbamo,
Welcome! Check for any Add-ons to your browsers and just remove them!
More importantly, "infection" is high on the list of causes. Please update the installed AV and run it! After finishing the scan,if necessary>>

Download MBAM from here and run it after updating :Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

After finishing the scan and if any infection is found, follow the guided steps to remove the Malware.

Just a trick! Refresh the desktop by RT.Clicking and choosing "refresh"! Sometimes it works!
best wishes,
sreedhav
PS: Sorry for the delay in reply, it's the peak hour traffic here in General Discussion all the time!
