iTunes 64-bit

Hello, I have had a problem with my previous windows installations so i did a fresh install and i tried to get itunes but now i noticed that there is a 32-bit and a 64-bit. (Previously i downloaded 32 bit which was around december)

The installer launches, but after choosing the correct settings suited for myself (and strange enough ,the target folder is in Program Files (x86)), i click install but this error comes up.

"The installer encountered errors before iTuns could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, pelase run the installer again."

This is weird, and i have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a fresh install.

Help?

If you have a 64-bit OS, you NEED the 64-bit version of iTunes. If you get the 64-bit version, it will install in the 64-bit Programs File folder, i.e.... C:\Program Files\iTunes

If you use Internet Explorer to download the file, Apple's website will "automatically" offer up the 64-bit version for download.

Again, provided you have a 64-bit OS, if not, the 32-bit version will be offered. With that said, make sure you get the file from Apple's website.

Yep, i figured out that i the 64 -bit application is a must after i downlloaded the 32 bit setup.

I used Firefox and from the options, i downloaded the itunes setup 64 bit file. And i am sure it's 64 bit because of the file name and how it opens.

but the problem is the error i get when trying to instal the 64 bit version.
+ the default destination of installtion is Program Files (x86) when I started the installer. even if i manually change it, it still creates that error i originally wrote.

The file should say iTunes64setup.exe

As for the error. Don't know whats up with that. Can you post a screenshot?

BTW I'm running iTunes under Win 7 x64 without issue. In fact i'm using it right now.

After i click install, the install screen comes up for like a quarter of a second, then disappears to the ending screen where it states that errors occurred...:

This is normal. Don't try to change the destination. The iTunes x64 isn't really a true, native 64 bit program. It has a couple components that install in Program Files, but for the most part of the main iTunes application and components, it installs in Program Files (x86) and is 32 bit. You can also see this when you run it if you look in task manager, and you'll see the asterisk *32 next to the iTunes entry.


I'll ask..have you tried rebooting, and try to install again?

Here are some things you could try if you want. I know you said it doesn't install, but some things may be partially installed. If so..




Go into Programs and Features, and if any one of these has an entry there, then uninstall it.


Apple software support
Apple Mobile support
Apple application support
Bonjour
itunes
Quicktime



Then if you find any itunes/apple/apple computer/quicktime folder/files in these places after getting rid of the above, then delete them.

Some of these locations you'll have to have (Show hidden files, folders, or drives) enabled from Folder Options-View tab.

Program Files -

itunes

Program Files (x86) -

itunes
Quicktime

Program Files (x86)/Common Files -

Apple

ProgramData -

Apple
Apple computer

users/yourusernamehere/AppData/Roaming -

Apple Computer

appdata/LocalLow -

Apple Computer

appdata/Local -

In the temp file folder under appdata/Local

delete the contents inside the temp folder. Probably will have one or two files that won't let you get rid of.

If you ever use something like CCleaner, you could run that, and see if it will find any references to itunes/quicktime after you've done all that.

Reboot, download itunes again, right click on the installer, go to properties, click the unblock button.

Have any Antivirus programs/monitoring programs, or other running programs disabled/closed temporarily then try and install it again.



Don't know what configurations you are picking during the installation process, but maybe you might try just letting it install as is, if possible without configuring anything during install. Not sure if it would make any difference, or if you're willing to let it install default. Just a suggestion.

You actually could change folder locations as it shouldn't be the problem. I have my iTunes folder on a seperate drive and have no problems running it at all.

If the program isn't working its not due to folder locations, its something else. The post above has some good points.

The point is it's not necessary to change the location. It wanting to install to Program Files (x86) is normal behavior, and shouldn't be the problem.

Airbot, i haev taken your suggestions and deleted all the apple content on all the places you recommended, plus i tried installing it on default with no settings touched prior to installation.

i click install but again it did not work! How frustrating

iTunes has definitely seen its share of problems as many posts as I've seen here. Just random problems, ranging from not being able to install it, to it not running after being installed. One user couldn't install it because he had corruption of his hard drive. After he ran checkdisk and it repaired the bad sectors, he was able to install it. Though I can't find where that was, and you say it's a brand new install of Windows 7, I'm at a loss.

You could try and run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html
Although the full test can take quite a long time.

Last thing I might try is to attempt to install an earlier version of it and see if you have any luck. You can get older safe versions here:

Well i did restart the computer, but it wasnt a fresh download cause of bandwidth worries. but i'll try a fresh download now
