Solved iTunes Taskbar Icon

Hey Guys,

I recently fresh installed W7 and am loving it but i have noticed that itunes would normaly be only one icon that is active on the taskbar, even if the program is open, i would only see one icon there. But now when i open it, it opens up another icon, so theres two on the task bar, one thats the app thats open and the other one being the icon i click to launch. Anyway i can get it back so that its just one icon that is in use and not two?

Sorry if it doesnt make much sense, i can take a screendump if needed.

Hi Mike,

Click on the first itunes icon on the taksbar so that it opens up and the second icon is there. Then just right click on the new second opened icon and pin it to takbar. Then right click on the first icon and unpin it from the taskbar.

It should just use the new second one now.

I've actually struggled with this problem for quite some time.

Due to some gadgets in my Windows and, frankly, I don't know exactly what else, every time the iTunes would update, it would go back to the original icon and I had real difficulties fixing it back... everything I tried ended up with the same "duplicate icon in the task bar" thing...

I just found something that might solve this problem: with the "duplicate" iTunes opened (the altered icon pinned to the taskbar and itunes and its original icon opened), I pinned down the functional itunes.
Then, I opened the shortcut to the taskbar pins in windows Explorer (C:\Users\*your user*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar), deleted the 'non-functioning' icon of iTunes, changed the name and icons to the remaining iTunes shortcut... and voilá!
The only thing I needed to pay attention to was to keep the iTunes opened during the whole process...

Hope this might help someone who's having similar problems.

Haven't had the duplicate iTunes icon on the taskbar problem for quite some time (months) now since last handful of iTunes updates to date.

Well, I had... in fact, I just had that problem this week, when the iTunes updated to 10.3... As I said, I'm not sure exactly why this happens with my windows, since many people don't seem to have that problem, but I believe there's something to do with my gadgets (I have gadgets that are related to iTunes), but even when I uninstall the gadgets and tried the normal methods to duplicate iTunes, I couldn't fix it.
Since I've been having consistent problems with that for quite a while (about 1,5 year, now) and always tried different methods which, sometimes did the trick, sometimes, it didn't. I always looked for a method that would be guaranteed. And this is what I've come up with.

Either way, I'm sure there might be other ways to do it, but it's always nice to share our experiences so people have as many options as they can when it comes to fixing a problem.

Hi Mike,

Click on the first itunes icon on the taksbar so that it opens up and the second icon is there. Then just right click on the new second opened icon and pin it to takbar. Then right click on the first icon and unpin it from the taskbar.

It should just use the new second one now.

Thanks for the Answer! i know i'm a bit late to the party. but for anyone searching here, this works for other programs too, not just iTunes. E.g. i just tried the same thing with Evernote, and it works!!
