I can not for the life of me figure this out......

Running windows 7 x64 build 7100, itunes x64.
My ipod classic gen 5 80 gb will not sync in itunes unless usb 2.0 is turned off by disabling standard enhanced pci to usb host controller in device manager. Itunes freezes during sysnc while ipod ejects itself forcing me to restart pc. tried numerous cables, numerous uninstall reinstall. When i disable apple mobile device support the ipod will remain mounted, however i can not sync with ipod due to the fact that it is missing the drivers. itunes wants to install in x86 file, have tried this as well as manually placing in x64 program files. talked to supervisor at apple, recommended i comp. clean every stentch of apple from computer and re install itunes x64 while manually directing it to 64 bit program files. to no avail. i tried installing 32 bit drivers as well win7x64 would not take to them. PLEASE HELP.
note: my library is on external hdd....but i have no f'n idea how to move it and it is too big.

ok so now i have figured out it was due to my library being on an external, is there any remedy to this? it syncs right up when my library is on the c:. but my library is big so i don't think this is going to work for me!

Use Winamp. At least that works.
The last time i tried to use iTunes was on a mates' computer and all i did to crash it was drop 1.2gb of audio files into the library...

Which in any real software solution, doesn't mean an immediate freeze, but rather a quick indexing of teh 1.2gb of songs i just dragged and dropped.

Honestly though, iTunes is hated for a reason. It deserves the hate.
The only software i've seen programmed worse than iTunes is STEAM.

I also have this same issue, has any one managed to solve it yet? I have just upgraded to the newest version of itunes 8.2.0.23 but this has not fixed it.

My itunes library is also on a drive other than C (not external though), and really I would like to keep it there. The same configuration worked fine under vista.

I am also having issues with f**in itunes syncing, but my library is on C: I plug in it syncs for all of 19 seconds and then says ok to disconnect all would be great if i was able to get my selected songs on my 120gb ipod I managed to get 30 gb on but now when i select sync only checked songs and misc... it hangs and freezes and CPU jumps to 78%-100% and puter freezes what gives it is becoming very annoying so I called apple care and they told me there are numerous bugs in itunes 8.2 they have no plans to debug at this time and it is supposedly not compatible with the RC-7100 at all sux because i have 70gb of music to sync and media monkey works but when itunes decides to sync it wipes all 70 out because all my mp3 have been imported into media monkey, I give up!! I might be forced to uninstall the rc and go back to vista,

This is driving me nuts

Yeah i am having the same issue i have 80gb ipod classic, latest ipod software and Itunes, Winamp and even some random windows media player addon so you can sync with media player and none of them work. i am using windows 7 ultimate 64x RC1 build 7100. Every time i get to about 30 or so songs the ipod says " ok to disconnect" and whatever software i am using it locks up. i can manage to put a few songs in one at a time but after a few that too causes the ipod to eject itself. i have tried unchecking the box to limit power usage in device manager for the usb root hubs....no luck..... i even tried SEVERAL older versions of itunes and even ran in EVERY compatibility mode with no luck what so ever. i am two seconds away from throwing my ipod at the wall. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. i have been searching the web for weeks now.

Do it. The Zune HD is coming out soon! And that means...

No more crappy Apple software!

I call it the craptop.
I wanted to bump this topic back up in hopes that it may be resolved at some point. I would also like to mention that the problem is persisting with iTunes 9 on windows 7RC1
the winamp in vista mode workaround is working for me though

media monkey that works yeah put I tunes on the same drive and boot it from there or you can take your library on your internal that will solve all issues, I also have a tip if you need to get stuff from your pod there is an article on how to use your ipod to trransfer music to a new computer it works for other uses as well

I think the issue here is 64bit. I bought a Ipod 160GB Classic today and use 32bit Windows 7, plugged it in booted up iTunes and it synced straight away with no errors. I'm not sure about this but seems like it is only affecting 64bit OS.
