The Windows 7 Compatibility Program revealed that my NVIDIA graphics card was not current for the Aero features in Windows 7, but might work with new drivers. So, I went ahead with Win 7 after uninstalling XP.
During the install, Windows upgraded all my PCs drivers, but in the process, changed my "NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX Integrated GPU" to a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter." Now, it appears, NVIDIA might have just released a new, comprehensive driver that might meet my needs to use Aero, but I can't figure out how to revert to the NVIDIA so I can load the updated drivers.
I went to the NVIDIA website and downloaded the new drivers hoping that some adjustment might occur, but the installation simply reported that the new driver "did not apply to any hardware on my computer."
I admit that I'm a novice in this area, and maybe I'll just have to go out and buy a new graphics adapter, but I'd prefer to use my NVIDIA if possible.
I'd appreciate any suggestions that can put me on the right track. Thanks.

If you install the Nvidia drivers, it should pick it up as an Nvidia card again. The drivers will recognize it for what it is when they install, and report that to Windows.

For that old card there is not now and never will be a Windows 7 driver for it. The best you can hope for is to use the last XP driver for it, and no Aero will not work on that card. This thread here,
