This security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of update KB4054518 (released December 12, 2017) and addresses the following issues:

• Security updates to Windows SMB Server, Windows Kernel, Microsoft Graphics Component, Internet Explorer, and Windows Graphics.

Known issues in this update

Symptom
Due to an issue with some versions of Anti-Virus software, this fix is only being made applicable to the machines where the Anti virus ISV have updated the ALLOW REGKEY.

Workaround
Contact your Anti-Virus AV to confirm that their software is compatible and have set the following REGKEY on the machine

Symptom
Microsoft has reports of some customers with AMD devices getting into an unbootable state after installing this KB. To prevent this issue, Microsoft will temporarily pause Windows OS updates to devices with impacted AMD processors at this time.

Workaround
Microsoft is working with AMD to resolve this issue and resume Windows OS security updates to the affected AMD devices via Windows Update and WSUS as soon as possible. If you have experienced an unbootable state or for more information see KB4073707. For AMD specific information please contact AMD.

I have an AMD FX-8350 CPU running on Windows 7 SP1 and this update is in my Update List.
Am I correct in assuming that if it is there that I am safe in applying it?
In other words, is my CPU not included in the list of CPUs affected by the booting problem?

There are two known issues with this particular update. 1) with the Anti Virus, and 2) with AMD processor. Microsoft Update offers this update only if your installed Anti Virus AV software has changed and set the REGKEY . Because you are being offered the update then you are sure that your anti virus AV has already set REGKEY. However, having said that, there is also a known problem with AMD processors (?) which, in turn, mean CPU owners best avoid the update, or hid the update altogether to prevent it being installed. Does that help you answer your question?

I double checked that my AV (BitDefender 2018 paid version) has set this key.
I will hide the update until the situation becomes clearer.

Interesting enough I hid the KB4056894 update that completely shut my AMD PC down. Today I picked Restore hidden updates and it was no longer there, completely gone! :shock:

Even though I don't own any AMD systems - I'm going to err on the side of caution with this and the Security-only update.

Still haven't seen these listed yet, so I'm assuming they haven't been reissued. When they are relisted that's when I'll install it.
