Hi, don't know what's wrong. Running windows 7 build 7000 and using firefox and IE version 8 beta. Can't get java to install. ALways turns off during install and then Windows says it is trying to fix the problem, and of course, never does. Can anyone tell me what is wrong here? How do I install it, exactly, and what version should I be using. Really weird for something so basic. Thanks

For starters upgrade or clean install to Build 7100 or 7127.

Then install latest version of java.

Works fine on mine.

HI, can't. Computers were given to us at school and don't know how to update?

Thanks. Ideas?

The computer given to you by the school came with pre-installed with Windows 7 build 7000. :sarc: I am highly skeptical of that.

You can update. You download the RC by googling "Windows 7" and clicking on the first link.

So, how did Windows 7 get on this computer in the first place? I suggest the same method for doing an update. ;) No worries. Build 7000 is going to die soon anyway.

Bye.

Hi,

Skeptical? Yee of little faith. Computers donated, 24 of them, by a parent of our school who works for microsoft. Probably not going to update myself as we were told to wait for the final version. Still, too many problems as it sits. I'll try the comment by WCTOM. I just don't see anything called Java under control panel in windows. A search for Java shows nothing. Is this done in the browser? If so, where? IE or FIrefox. Appreciate your help. Mac person and learning.

Where is this exactlyon? Computer or browser? Which version of Java will I need? Thanks a lot.

Yeah, there's really no point in continuing with build 7000, as 7Heaven pointed out, it will start shutting down every two hours starting in 8 days, June 1st. Then you won't be able to use it after August.

You had better tell whoever's in charge of them in your school to install 7100 RC on them all or they'll be useless.

Oops, sorry. I misread your original message and didn't realize you haven't gotten Java to install in the first place. (But once you do, you prob. will have to the change I posted.)

As others said, you should download and clean install 7100. If you wait for the RTM, that is a long 6 months - esp. for 24 computers.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone, I guess I'll have to update the system and try again as java will not install. So, is it hard to install? If possible, is there a good tutorial? My problem with this computer is it is a notebook with no drive. So, I guess I'll have to put it on a USB key as a disc will do no good. Thanks for all the great support.

Exactly, RC or build 7127 should run fine, if its w7 x64, install java, AND java x64, so all of it works, i had to install both for FF to load java properly :)

I have a 32 bit system. What will that change. Also, on this link to look for the update

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

it is a blank screen with a wheel that just spins. I see no content or a choice to choose a build. Is there another link to the updates or am I doing something wrong. Cheers.

Id suggest grabbing it from a torrent site, heres the link for x86, and for x64 for anyone who is after them :)

x86: use google

x64: use google

( Thanks to Captain Zero for uploads ;) )

NOTE: These are THE OFFICIAL torrents, no sneaky surprises.

Enzo.

If you're trying in Firefox or another browser, try using IE instead. OR use these direct links, copy the link into IE's address bar.
