Hey there,

tried every single thing that is suggested on the java.com site.

Downloaded both installers for offline installation 32bit and 64bit. Cleaned the java cache. Rebooted several times. Installed in XP compatibility mode...

I can see the 32 and 64 bit version listed properly under my installed programms, but chrome and firefox wont recognize the installation!

Btw. It worked fine until i did an automatic update maybe two or three days ago. From that time on everything was messed up.

Any suggestions? Please, i seem to be stuck and can't find the error...

Thanks,
Jordan

Hi there,

Have you tried going to java.com in Internet Explorer and downloading and installing it that way?

Hey D3LL!

What the heck - i never used IE in my whole life. But, yes indeed IE recognizes the installation and displays the test applet properly!

I am totally confused...

Hi Jordan, Glad to hear you problem is fixed :)!

Because when going to Java.com on Firefox or Google Chrome it will just install on the browser...

However if you go to java.com in Internet Explorer it will install on the computer :).

Hey D3LL,

yes, everything works fine in IE, but the problem persists with my preferred browsers Chrome and Firefox.
(I would not want to switch to IE because of this error.)

I just uninstalled again and installed the package that gets prompted when visiting java.com with the IE, but to no avail.
IE loads applets, Chrome/FF complain about the missing java plug in...

Hmmmmmm... :/

Thanks anyway, J.

Thanks for your reply. The packages install just fine.

But when i test Jave via

Java Tester - What Version of Java Are You Running?

or

http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1

I get the yellow notification tab on Chrome telling me:

Java(TM) is required to diaplay some elements on this page. [Install plug-in...]

Checking via

Java Information - BrowserSpy.dk

reveals:

Java enabled Yes
Java supported Yes
Java version No or unable to detect...

By the way, the chrome Java plugin under "chrome://plugins/" hat the version number Java(TM) - Version: 10.10.2.18 and is enabled.

I guess it is a general problem with the recent update and will probably just wait till they fix it!?!

Thanks,
Jordan

Hmmm How very strange. I can't seem to find many things on this either.

I will keep having a look around and if I find anything I will let you know.
