Hi, I'm new here-just wondering if someone can help me with a javascript issue? I'm using Firefox 3.something (I HAD updated to newest version but wouldn't work on site I needed it to) and occasionally the online portal for the college courses I'm taking will not even let me log in, and claims it's because "javascript not running". It will work fine one day, I log out, then when attempting to log in the very next day (or even just an hour later) I get the error message. Nothing was changed in the meantime. This is crazy-making me. Help?

Hello AzScout, and welcome to Sevenforums!

I highly recommed updating to the most recent version of both firefox and java, but if you don't want to update firefox, that is up to you:

If you want to use firefox 3, I recommend at least using the most recent version of 3(3.6). Here it is: Mozilla Firefox 3.6. Java really needs to be updated to the most recent version. Look for it on its website, or if you can find how to update java on your computer. Make sure automatic updating is on, as Java is a big security risk if it isn't constantly updated. Try that, and let me know if it still isn't working for ya.

Thanks for responding, DustSailor- Firefox 3.6 is what I'm using, tried the newest version when first came out- unfortunately wasn't compatible with website my college uses for its online courses...had to have their IT guy on helpdesk walk me through browser change right in the middle of a timed test-I was a basket case. Just did Java upgrade yesterday to 6.30 I think...had to do a system restore this evening, after I'd been on here looking for answers- was black-screening me and unresponsive. I am puzzled.

For such an important thing, why not just use internet explorer? It should work fine, as is compatible with the most websites nowadays...

You might also consider downloading all updates, provided this is your computer and not the school's

I started out with Internet Explorer, went to Chrome, then Firefox. Was not my choice to start bouncing around-the first 2 semesters had no issues. This semester, 2 of my classes had 3rd-party "Lab" environments (Pearson and Slater) and I started having problems that caused freeze-ups and overall performance glitches. It was at the IT desk's suggestion that I switched.

AzScout, what better place to ask for help to computer problems then Sevenforums? While I may not have an answer to your javascript problem, I can offer advice that may eventually remove that problem.

We would love to find fixes to those problems of yours. Would you be able to describe them in a bit more detail?

First I would like to know which web browser is your favorite, and then we can try finding solutions to it. I still highly recommend the most recent version of any web browser. I especially recommend IE9. Let me know.

Also, I wasn't sure yet if this is your computer or your school's. Are you able to get updates and log into the Administrator account?

We can start diagnosing your computer problems if you would like. Just say when

DustSailor- It is my computer; I am administrator and can perform updates. I actually did a little documentation of the glitches while all that was going on (so if I missed any deadlines my instructor could check up on me) so could give you a fairly clear account of the issues. Doubtful could locate them at this precise moment, 3:00 a.m. here and starting to wind down a little, but if you're willing, I'd sure like to take you up on the offer to help in next day or so...

for sure, I'm in cali (2am) so I'll be getting up around noon (1pm your time) :)
If not me, someone else I am sure would love to help you. If I wake up first, I just may be around. Post what you got up here and we'll see if we can fix you up something. in the meantime, try this:

Make sure you have all important updates and optional updates for the internet in windows update.

Follow these tutorials:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Run this one 3 times: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html
----------^-----------

Check for viruses. What antivirus are you using?

Make sure you have the most recent version of IE (9). Might I suggest using IE9 as a test subject even if you don't like it; but this, as always, will be up to you.

'Kay DustSailor, you've given me new hope! I'm off here for the night and will tackle those suggestions tomorrow (not an early-riser myself, lol). Thank you!

Hello AzScout, and welcome to Sevenforums!

I highly recommed updating to the most recent version of both firefox and java,

Its possible that AzScout wrongly described his problem as a JavaScript problem when he meant Java its very common for people to confuse them.
If it is a JavaScript problem updating Java will not help , JavaScript is integral to Firefox you need to look under option's then content & make sure it's ticked.
