JPEG's that won't display in browsers

I will occasionally run across an image that looks like this on a web page:

If I were to save them and run Properties they all state "JPEG Image".

Don't understand why these images are not viewable in the browser. I've tried IE, Chrome, Iron and Firefox and the images present the same way in each. Thanks in advance for any information.

Could it be any thing to do with Exif Files ? ...

Thanks for the reply. Like I said, "I will occasionally run across an image...". I do not remember the URL of a specific site, but the next time I get this I will post the site.

So it's 3+ months later and found an example worthy of this thread I started because in the following example it may point to an issue that may not be Windows 7 related....but I don't know.

At Arizona Custom Knives - Custom handmade and production knives, the following is displayed:

At the same site but a different page (Arizona Custom Knives - Custom handmade and production knives), the following appears:

I checked the URL's for both images and found that even though the image names are identical, they appear to reside in different directories. The URL for the image that displays is http://www.arizonacustomknives.com/uploads/images/julie.jpg whereas the URL for the same image that does not display is IIS 8.0 Detailed Error - 404.0 - Not Found.

I don't know if each time I run across these jpegs that won't display the same situation is occurring, but I do run across these non-displayed jpegs occasionally as I stated in the thread start. The very next one I come across I will post the site and see if somebody can figure this out.

That is a very good possibility. Quite often I will see that 'placeholder' in photo galleries.

I will. If they respond at all I'll post it.

When I now right click it absolute nothing happens whereas before I would get the option to "save image as...". I'm using a Chromium-based browser called Iron.

Looking at what has already been posted, especially Callender's post, it appears that these images are ones you want to avoid.

I occasionally click on one of those 'news' stories and get stuck trying to get out (leave page ... are you sure ... leave page ... are you sure) The site has wrapped it's tentacles around my browser and won't let go. I have to kill the browser to stop the cycle of are you sure.

I know better than to click on these 'news' stories, but they sound interesting - that's the trap.

My advice? Don't worry about those images - especially if they're on a page that is telling you a 'success' story.
Better yet, don't fall into the trap in the first place - only visit sites that you trust. But how can you tell?
Experience, and even that's no guarantee you won't think "Let me just peek ..."

Missing image

I get the blank image like the one in your screenshot. Right click the image and you can copy the address. If I paste it into a new tab using Aviator browser (Chromium) this time instead of Opera then try to open the given URL:

h**p://www.arizonacustomknives.com/images/julie.jpg resolves to h**p://localhost/arizona/

localhost means "this computer" - the one I'm using.

I cannot explain this but here's some screenshots anyway:





Edit: My guess is that the website owner uploaded an image to display and the website tries lo load that image from it's original location on the website owner's machine when connected. It looks like a scripting error. The image should be on the server and it isn't.
