Solved jpg's copied to CD in Win 7 can't be opened on XP computer

I copied a few standard .jpg files to a CD selecting the non-rewritable option. The jpg's cannot be opened on any of the 3 XP computers that received the CD's. The file names can be seen, but not opened.

That does sound strange, you say they can be seen, are they still showing as jpeg on xp?

Joel that's not too unusual.

Normal cause is that the recording optical drive has different tolerances than the reading optical drive.

Can you view the jpg files that you recorded on the same computer that recorded them?

I need you to comply with the following:
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use SIW or Speccy or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

Did you copy the actual JPGs, or perhaps just the "shortcuts" to the JPGs?

If you browse the CD with Windows Explorer, does the file size of the so-called JPG files match the size of the original true JPGs on the Win7 machine, or are they much tinier (suggesting that they are shortcuts, not the underlying true JPG files)?

What technique did you use to copy the JPGs to the CD from Win7? Please be specific (maybe do it again, with screenshots you can post here).

Try burning another disc at a lower speed?

Do you think if the disk format UDF recording was used that it would solve his issue?

Thank you everyone who responded to my dilemma so quickly. I don't know why but the same jpgs on the CD that couldn't be viewed before now can. I would think I did something stupid, but a knowledgeable person on another XP computer had previously experienced the same problem with the disk.
I wish other Windows 7 problems I have had would end so easily, even if it's stil a mystery. It's good to know there's knowledgeable people out there to help. I subscribed to Dell's software support out of desperation, but that 'support' has been exasperating to say the least.
