I do television production for a living. I get files from many servers all day long and edit them. Some folders I need to get to are buried in a tree of 3-5 (or more) folders. Is there a way that I can jump right into a folder without having to click down the tree.

so for example here is the folder structure.
Folder1 - Folder2 - Folder3 - Folder4 - Folder5.

Is there a way when I am in an application and need to open a file in folder5, that I can jump right to folder5 with having to click through all the other 4 folders? Hmmmm……..I hope so but I can't figure it out.

There's 2 different issues. File Open and Save Dialogs and Explorer Windows. For filling in say a file open dialog without copy/paste I wrote PastePath. The last Explorer Window that had the focus(was the active window) PastePath will remember the path. Put the mouse pointer in the open dialog or any input that will accept paste from clipboard, and hit the hotkey. The path will be pasted in.

For remembering open folder windows and reopening them I wrote FolderCache. You hit the hotkey and the list pops up.

I have a few others on my page. For those using Explorer to work most require the setting Show Full Path in Title Bar in Folder Settings.

The downloads are free for you to use at your own risk. Please read the included Readme.txt rather than asking questions here.

Explorer is a funny thing. There are so many aspects to opening folder windows. I think I wrote at least 1/2 dozen such utilities and I still don't have all the functionality I want. :)

brink, thanks for your help. If I tell you I am a Mac user and am being forced to use a PC at work will you kick me in the nuts. That is what I got when I went to the AutoIT forum for help and all they did was kick me in the nuts relentlessly. I'm not stupid, I just do not work on a PC and am NOT familiar with how to do certain things. I tried adding the folder to the Favorite bar off to the left side. It does not work. It seems my audio editing application Nuendo 5.5 (64bit) does NOT see anything I put in the favorites bar.

I have written several scripts in AutoIT and it works. I taught myself Applescript and now I am re-coding things over to AutoIT to automate my daily dose of clicking through folders.

Some one else offered some code that will copy the folder path. To me…..thats code for I have a PC virus for you that will bring you machine to its knees. So I am skeptical to download that freebie. I guess my next plan would be to go to a Nuendo forum and inquire there about how to jump to a folder.

Thanks for any help.

If the programs do not use the Windows Dialogs that have Favorites then it may be simpler to get to the file, then drag and drop that file on the program. That is if the program supports drag and drop.

To avoid clicking through a chain of folders one can use search. Then just drag the result onto the program's window. Or if the program doesn't support drag and drop, you can right click the file then use Open With.. once the association is set up between that file type and that program then you can just double click the file to bring it up in the associated program.

If I'm not close maybe you can post a screen shot.
