Just a reality check before I install it...

great forum... just a lot of info to try to digest, so I thought I'd get feedback if this is not a good idea. It's been about a month since Win 7 has been out, so I hope that there's plenty of info available in case I run into issues for my upgrade to Win7Pro.
I have a new, unformatted drive that I'm going to install Win7 on, but want to leave my WinXPPro drive intact, so from what I've read, I can just boot and install Win7 from the CD on the new drive, and the XP drive should be recognized and setup as a dual boot config.
If I run into Win7 install probs, I just want to be able to remove/reformat the new Win 7 drive without affecting the XP drive/installation and be able to boot to the XP drive.
I've also read about issues changing the dual boot config for when I finally get all my XP migrated over to the Win 7 drive/system, which could take some time for me. Is there anything to do to minimize issues for when I do try to go to a Win7 boot config eventually?
I'm also considering the Laplink program to migrate most of my XP files/progs to the Win 7 drive... anyone heard of issues/success with that program?

Hi and welcome to sevenforums

Most people who are migrating from XP to win 7 first dual boot. Same proceedure if it is one one drive or two. Changing the boot menu after you decide isnt that hard and there are tutorials here on how to do it.

You wont need laplink if you dual boot. You alsot dont need to unplug the xp drive. just tell win 7 where you want to install it.
shold you decide to keep the OS'es seperate in diff HD's there isnt any problem. I suggest when you are ready to do it you make sure you have the XP dvd and the win 7 dvd.
