I am just curious as to whether the drive wipe in CCleaner is any faster than clean all or the disk wipe in Partition Wizard?

Anyone tried this function if so can you post back with what you found it like

Wiping a disk means writing zeros to every sector on the disk. By it's very nature this is going to be slow. The time required for such an operation is almost entirely dependent on disk performance so I wouldn't expect any significant time differences between programs that do this.

I do agree with LMiller7. The speed of the wipe is controlled by the speed of the hard drive (rpm) and the size of the hard drive.
Using some sort of Lab equipment one might find a difference but in the real world I don't think their is any difference.

Yes I was rather expecting this the drive was an SSD and I since found out I should have use the Parted Magic to do it as it is SSD specific as WHS pointed out to me.

Ah well wil knownext time:)

I have just replace the hard drive in one of my laptops and i tried Eraser.and it worked out to be the fastest but when it was finished all i got was a long list of failure to erase messages,Comodo system utilities was reasonably fast but when i rebooted the files where still there so it completely failed,Glary utilities was so slow i stopped it. then i downloaded CCCleaner and the options where better and it was reasonably quick it cleaned a 250 gig Hitachi 5400 rpm in about 6 hours, but if you watch it count the seconds and minutes they are not actually real and it finished in about 4 hours.no browser was open no other programs except for the ones that run with windows where running and it was connected with a USB connector i got from Amazon for £4.99 Bipra SATA drive connector its called, since then it also wiped a 1TB external IOMEGA hard drive and that took 8 hours to wipe a 600 gig partition, with 3passes setting,

Hello Stever mate seems you have a lot of different cleaner things there - if you want my humble opinion I would stay clear of the Comodo utilities the security is fine but those tools are reasonably new and "buggy" I found are really a bit wonky.

Personally I use either the DISKPART clean all or the disk wipe in Partition Wizard for cleaning drives (spinners) and PW has a lot of other really nice features and functions.

That gadget you have there is a top piece of gear I am assuming it is a plug into the drive and it is powered from an adaptor and then it hooks up to the working machine via USB cable? If you get really stuck with a drive you cannot get into make yourself a bootable Ubuntu disk set the BIOS to boot from the optical and use the TRY version and any drive can be opened in that environment. Yes i found the same with the Comodo things they are a bit temperamental the one i found most problematic is their CCE cleaning essentials finding imaginary items in nonexistent folders along with the Recycle bin, even showing system folders i have never found them. But i do like their security suite i think their firewall is second to none ive used it for several years now on XP,Vista & on Windows 7 and im not planning on changing it in the foreseeable future. I use the Runtime utilities disc for making partitions if windows refuses to do it,sometimes easeus if im in the mood for a few adverts and i keep Linux Mint on a DVD as a second OS im thinking that is what will go on the Hitachi HDD now its reclaimed.Or maybe Zorin.

This is the lead i use,it works a treat with just the 1 USB Plug actually needed unless the HD Draws more then 500ma,I have a similar DIGITUS connector but there is not really a need to plug it into extra power,i have a hub that will put out upto 1amp from 2 of its ports

Yes I agree mate that CCE made a real shambles of my tester machine and as very difficult to get rid of so I just stick with CCleaner it is the dusks guts with cleaning and the registry (as long as you back it up of course :))

I know you like it but I would still be careful with that runtime app the PW is something I cannot work without.

ICit2lol mate I actually came here yesterday to see if anyone had any experiences with My Defrag 4.3.1 or any other version, but i never got round to posting. i used it first time friday after reading about it and now i can't work out what it has actually done to to my files. I started with a few colours showing the fragmentation and up under the menu bar or tool bar it was telling me the files it was moving but now its finished all the files are red which means unmovable and i just have 2 black zones of free space and 2 red zones of unmovable files,i don't understand what it means, and the forum seems more to do with shoes and handbags rather than the defragger.im wondering if it has worked or if it totally failed,So i thought i will see if anyone had used it before i go back to defragler or auslogic one

No Steve I used to use that app it is a funny little workout eh/ I used to use it for it being quick then run the Windows one after which made it a bit quicker. Mate if I were you I wouldn't bother too much with after market defrags the Windows one is really all you need. Apparently those others were ok with XP but Vista then 7 (and I am guessing 8 ) they tell me are all a bit more "fussy" when it comes to how the files are "lined up / stored" as it were.
So if it were me I would just stick to the the Windows one as it by logic has to know where files are stored and in what order because the install put them there in the first place :).
Having said that I work off SSD's for the best part now so have no need to use defrag. One I know some of the others like is Puran Defrag if you want to try it and there is always the Defraggler from piriform and Auslogics you already are ok but really much of a muchness and it all goes to eat up your drive space.

I think the secure erase function is best for SSD use since it can use the drives internal controller to wipe the drive. It takes only 4-5 minutes, maybe less on a 128GB SSD.

Yep mate and I saw the other day too it is safer from the point of view that is doesn't affect the internal architecture / components as much as the other erase types like the DISKPART and wipe disk in PW would:)

Intel's Tool Box for it's SSD's comes with a Secure Erase. I don't know if other brands of SSD's have the same but I recommend checking.
I don't believe that a manufacture of a SSD will allow it's own wipe method to harm the SSD.
