Just hello and an odd printer question

I have migrated to win7, I got 7260 and a few licences to cover me and the wife and started the path of which most of us did on xp finding the way though the odidties and in the main I have found win7 easy, but today I have found a real one, I have a BT homehub - I know but its free and I have setup a HP 960c printer fo rthe kids to use on the homehub and it sees it on
the USB and sees it as a 960c, then I setup a tcp port in printers and then let win7 take over and indead it goto the bit where it says "well ok tell us what it is then" and I look at the list and its not there, so I press windows update to update the list and it fails, I have tried for a few days and its just not doing it, so I then thought get the vista driver and there is my problem, I can't find it anywere, I have downloaded many files with promises, but none have the magic files hidden withing lol, anyone got any ideas at all ?

Stubbie, you may just find it easier if you get something like a Netgear PS121 or PS121u

It's a usb print server so it will actually que jobs as well.

Like apple airport I don't think that the homehub is a print server per se, so it will just throw up errors when two of you try to print at the same time.

The 121u is cheap enough on fleabay, and to make it work in windows7 just download the PS121v1 drivers from the netgear website. The v2 drivers have issue, but I have my 121v2 running on the v1 driver without any problems whatsoever, smooth as silk.

That's the most elegant and cheapest way for a family to share a printer over a network.

AFAIK, the way to make the USB printer available through the network would be to make it shared in the PC that has the USB connection. And of course that PC would need to be up for the sharing to work.

Edit: I should have specified "without additional equipment" .

interesting read, I set up my HP officejet manually and it threw up loads of problems, yes, it would print, but it kept stopping at the end of the last line on the test page - and wouldn't feed through the rest of the paper!

I ended up trying the driver NOT recommended by netgear and it works like a dream to this day! In the article though, I feel that the auther has confused the sharing of a printer on a network device with the actual function of a print server - but that's digressing from the point in hand!

Keep us informed, i'd like to know the outcome to this as I have 3 pc's in the house and when W7 ships in october, my intention is to keep the installation as free as possible of unecessary drivers and bloatware

Yesterday after I set it up on my win7 using the xp drivers I got, I gave in for a while
as as you said it works but with old problems, but there I was with a cup of tea in hand
and all of a sudden out poped a whole sheet of paper printed fine and 2 secs after a daughter appeared and took it away ? her vista used it fine see said, don't know what my problem is she said ! Kids !
