just installed AMD Bulldozer X8 FX-8150 but sytem not seeing all memy

put my old cpu in and everything is working fine!! so can it be a bad cpu that will not let 2 of the ram slots work properly?

Well with that exercise then it seems that it could be. Check the pins very carefully for missing or bent pins. I would request an RMA to AMD for complete evaluation.

so can a bad pcu effect 2 slots of ram? working in 2 and not in the other? pc is not as fast and kinda hangs waiting for internet to connect. Same symptoms on 2 different boards and ram. Thinking of taking cpu back and getting a exchange.

Yes, the memory controller (MC) is in the CPU.

On the new Asus mobo are you running the latest version of the required bios for the FX chip? Double check and if not then update carefully and retry installing the FX. Sorry but you may still have to send the chip in to AMD....drag !

No as upgrading to the new sabertooth solved that issue.

Bent pin .....yikes I think you'll be sunk, but you can always try?

I think it's a lost cause, unless that pin is on the outside and then how do you control the solder and with what kind of iron? I'm thinking your options are replace to the old chip and save for the new FX or bite the bullet and get another FX now. You can try RMA to AMD and could get lucky if they don't look at it and just replace? Long shot but one never knows?

ya i will get the FX8350 and keep the 8150 and try. I work in the medical field and have very small soldering tips and picks.

Well you can give it a try, you really have nothing to lose but my concern then would be if not done properly could a short across another pin or two do harm to the mobo? Where is the snapped pin and did you retrieve the broken pin.....?

near the back of the chip and no i don't have the pin. I would'nt chance the mother board but if i can do a clean solder i may try it out on a older board.

Well speaking to that lost pin.....are you sure it's not still in the mobo? I would get that slot cleared or double and triple check before inserting another chip. Now this is an idea could a pin already have been in the mobo forcing it to break off when inserted or do you think the pin was broken back in the other mobo?
