Just installed Windows 7...Funny??

So I just installed Windows 7 on my Friends laptop.

He had Windows Vista 32bit.

After I installed Windows 7, it says that he has 64bit Windows 7??

How did that happen? Isnt it suppose to be 32bit Windows 7?

Was it an upgrade or a clean install...

You probably installed Windows 7 x64 on accident:shock:

You presumably used a 64 bit installation disk and did a clean install.

Congratulations (?), the computer now has 64 bit Windows.

Well their are 2 disks in the windows 7 package or at least mine). I guess you grabbed the 64 bit CD. On a side note do you have the proper computer to run 64 bit properly?

It was a Clean install on the 2nd hard drive. On the 1st hard drive there is 32bit Windows Vista...

So something is wrong...

You had to have installed Windows 7 x64...there is no other explanation

Also you did a clean install...that better supports the theory

Use the 32 bit CD

You will need to acquire a Windows 7 x86 DVD...

Remember that the product key used to activate x64 will work on x86...where did your friend acquire his Disc from?

He told me last time he installed it using same CD and it was 32bit...but at that time he had only 1 hard drive and he cleaned installed Windows 7...and I am pretty sure it was 32bit because I remember downloading nVidia 32bit drivers. I never downloaded anything related to 64bit.

Could it be that Vista 32 bit is already present on another drive, thats why you cannot have Windows 7 32bit on this drive?

Like I said before...it isn't a mishap, the disc he gave to you to use is x64...

Can I inquire where he got the disc from?

A Windows 7 disc will either be x86 or x64...you can have Vista x86 and 7 x86 in different patitions...no issue whatsoever

If I am logged onto Windows Vista, Can I install Windows 7 on another drive through Windows? Or do i have to boot it?

Is there any disadvantage in installing through Windows?

Indeed you can...when you run setup in Windows, just choose the other partition as the install target
