Hi....have a gateway with a vista 64 bit...stopped working... the recovery discs that gateway sent me dont work but I tried a friends windows 7 and it worked. I wiped out hard drive so I have no OS at moment. Can I buy a windows 7 64 bit and install it? which windows 7 OS can I use? Do i just need to buy the windows disc and install? thanks for any help you can give.

You should have no problems buying and installing windows 7 x64. Which version you choose depends on your needs and budget.

since I have vista product code on my computer even though it not installed could I just purchase the upgrade or do I need to buy the whole version?

thanks peeps...so even though I dont have the vista home premium OS on my computer now since I wiped out the hard drive I can use the upgrade window 7 disc using the vista product code I have? thank again Im just trying to make sure.

had a virus...wanted to get rid of and reinstall but the discs that gateway sent me didnt work...so forget gateway..so I want to upgrade to windows 7. So a friend had a windows 7 disc and wiped out my hard drive but I could not use his product key.
