I dont know if I can ask this here or maybe u guys know where I can get help...

My 42" flat screen lcd tv turns on but stays on for 2 to 3 min and turns off
I found out that it can be a poped capacitor which I can check by opening
my tv and checking for any capacitors with bulk tops, but I did check and
I did not find any bulk one they are all in place, flat tops, so I want to know
beside capasitors what other thing should I check ?

Sylvania LCD TV
Model: LD370SS8 M2

I have it for 4 yrs now.

Hiyya Danshinbai mate if it were a cap in the main circuitry the thing would probably not work at all. Sounds like something is overheating - a bit like the the thermal cutout in a computer core.

Other than that it could be the power supply is failing.

Does the set turn off, or just the backlights? If the set is shutting off, most likely a bad power supply. It could be the digital main board, but that's less likely. It could also be the inverter board, or the panel, but that's even less likely.

Bad caps in the power supply usually result in the set not powering on, or taking several times to power on. As you said, the vented caps would be obvious if they were bad.

On your set the power is called the MPS CBA, part# 1ESA14382

Or you may have a combined power/inverter board

Inverter Board part# 1ESA17931 ( or 1FSA14240)

Tks guys u been great help..

@ICit2lol, yes something was overheating, I checked and 2 cable was
like a bit stripped and touching which made it over heat or a small
shortcircuit that I couldnt see but when I turned off the lights and then
turned on the tv I saw the small sparks that made me tape up those
small wires and the others too preventing future sparks lol

tks again for all these advice..

A Bit :D

Good you figured it out. Sounds like you had some bare wire. Lucky it didn't short out. Make sure the wires are separate from each other, and then from touching any metal. Hopefully that's the end of it

Hum had a gut feeling the suddenness of it was due to a problem like that. Now if it is possible it is just as well to replace those cables with new rather than taping mate as unless you have a top quality tape it will soon denigrate and you may be back to square one.

By the by the stripping was that the insulation peeling back or something you or somoen did for whatever reason because if it were heat related then something is still not right with whatever that cable is supplying or coming from particularly that board Guy spoke of.
