Just updated my Vista to Windows 7 Prem Home Ed. cannot access UAC

Yesterday I decided to update my old Vista machine, I bought the Windows 7 Home edition prem 32 bit online and installed it last night. Seemed to install properly but I got a message saying C:\Windows\system32\msconfig.exe
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.

So I googled the problem and tried to reboot using the F8 key in the bios, but it would not come up and went right to startup. Also I cannot get into the UAC to allow any options such as streaming to my XBox 360. In fact anything controlled bu UAC will not allow me to get in, even though I'm logged in as administrator.
Any ideas? or was the download I got online corrupt? I also downloaded PowerISO to install and am getting the same message about cannot verify signature.
Also it will not let me do a system restore.
Any way to fix this? Or was the download something that should not have been done.

Something comes to my mind -where did you buy Windows 7 from. Was it a complete with SP-1 version? Most users here get their copy from either Newegg or TigerDirect. It comes in a sealed package. Is your copy an OEM version versus a Retail one?

Assuming that you have the 25 digit product key you can go to the Microsoft Download Center and get the official ISO from them. This will get you a genuine copy of Winows7 Home Premium that you can burn to either a DVD or USB stick. I useImgburn (DVD) or Rufus (USB) to do the burns.

Hope this offers some insight.

Thanks, I got it online from dealscube, I was e-mailed me a verified serial # which worked to do the install, but the program was downloaded from a link they sent me. I will try from Microsoft instead since the key is good. will I be able to just reinstall even with the bad version already on my computer?

Also I just spent an hour searching over on Microsoft.com but cannot find a downlodable windows 7 .ISO file. I have seen other links online but do not trust that I will not get the same problem I have with no digital signature.

Go to the Microsoft Download Center to get the ISO. You need to go to the Downloads page and scroll down near the bottom to find Windows 7. If you are still having trouble check the Forum as it is mentioned in several places how to do it. I would do a "clean install."

Also I just tried to install windows updates, it showed 196 items that need to be updated but when I clicked install updates I got an error message Failed to install 196 items. I clicked Try Again button (which has the UCA shield) and got no response as usual. There was a message Errors found Code 80070241 Windows Update encountered n unknown error.

Do the "Clean Install" FIRST. Then reboot and let Windows Update do its work. There are a large number of them. Be very careful to AVOID the ones related to getting Windows 10. There are about 6 of them. (Check the forums for the list)
