Solved Just upgraded RAM/Graphics Card

Hello,

I just added 2 extra 2GB modules to my computer and an better graphics card.
However now my computer doesn't seem to boot up.

Whenever I press the on button it starts like it should but it doesn't show anything on my screen. Like if my monitor doesn't see the card.

Also note that I don't hear any error beeps.

Anyone who could help me?

EDIT: my new graphics card is an Asus GTX450 and should work just fine.

For the video card did you remember to connect it to the power supply with the 6 pin PCI-E power connector (or using an adapter that should have come with the card if the power supply doesn't have one)?

Also you listed power supply of 400W "I think", doesn't help much. Really need to know what that is and if it is even capable of running that card and everything else attached to the motherboard. If it is a good quality power supply with a decent 12 V rail(s) with sufficient amps it should be OK. If it is a no name 400W power supply with a poor 12V rail I wouldn't trust it to power a light bulb, never mind a computer.

According to ASUS 400w system power is the minimum. Check that a 6 pin power cable is connected to the video card and reseat the ram just to be sure. If it still doesn't boot try only one stick of ram first. Then the other.

Hi Stormy,

I forgot to update my pc specs It is an 400W for sure.
And yes the power cable is connected properly and the fan of the card is spinning fine.

Quick update: I just took my 2 new ram modules out and now it boots fine.
I checked my mobo specs and it should be able to handle 8GB.

What should I do assuming ram is the problem?

You can run memtest86+ or since just bought them I'd just exchange them from the store or RMA depending on where you got them. You can also check your bios settings to see if there's any settings for the ram. Those are some of your options.

I will try adding the new memory modules 1 by 1 and see how that goes.

Sorry, that's what I was implying. Use memtest86+ if you can troubleshoot each stick. Some people don't want to go through the whole trouble of trouble shooting RAM. Since it's clear that was the issue when removing them and booting.

Before you "add" modules, trying swapping modules - take the two "good" ones out and replace them (in the same sockets) with the two new ones, then see if it boots up. Post back your findings and we'll go from there.

Ah I understand now

I think I will just add one of the new modules now and then see if it boots up or not. Easier than memtest86+ I guess.

GEWB, I have replaced my old ones with the good ones and my system boots up fine with them.

Anyway, my computer runs a bit quicker with my new modules, I will get some more later.
