Offered to me yesterday by Win Upd... I was careful to UN-check it ... but believe it or not, it installed ANYWAY. On phone to MS to fix - since it's also eating 100% of CPU. So much for MS assurance that it was functionally benign.

:( Thank God for System Restore. (And I got the "opportunity" ;) to re-learn how to "hide" an update to more-positively prevent it from installing.)

Fortunate enough to successfully apply monthly updates for several months... now VERY concerned about losing my device to 4515206 or 4474419. Advice??
The current KB 2952664 has nothing to do with the original one that was the Windows 10 nightmare.

So you can just leave the current one installed.

Maybe it won't install the GWX virus that plagued us some years ago, but many updates even to this day are well known to contain malware, like spyware (that MS justifies calling "telemetry").

It always amazes me how paranoid people get over MS offerings, yet they happily click-through warnings on such crapware as BearShare or the Yahoo toolbar (OK, I' showing my age here! :) )

Whoa, boy! Not all of us are like that. I won't install KB 2952664 and I don't click on crapware, let alone do it happily!

Just some food for thought: An Open Letter to Microsoft About Poor Windows 10 Update Experiences


I run a tight ship. This how you absolutely NEED! to use updates is a fallacy. I haven't used updates since I ran Windows 98se back in 2004. Never been "hacked" or gotten malware. I even have a netbook running XP on 24/7 that runs a FTP server, Team Speak server and Phone Tray. The netbook is connected to an external monitor and keyboard. I call it the kitchen kiosk. It runs XP!!! It must be hacked or susceptible to malware. Oh my! :rolleyes:

For my Win 7 computers I use a highly configured Sandboxie install for the browser and Faronics Anti-executable. I scan all downloads at Virus Total. Or one could run Shadow Defender or the free (but buggy) Time Freeze. I clone my computers too so if something were to happen I can clone back.

Did I mention I use FDE on everything as welll? :D
