Solved KB4461529 causes Outlook 2010 x64 crash for some people

Just a heads-up...

We are getting reports that the latest Update for Outlook, KB4461529, is causing Outlook to crash on opening (or to be more precise, on the attempts to Sync after opening)
The problem remains even when starting Outlook in Safe Mode.

The only solution so far is to uninstall the update (from Installed Updates) - and hide it.

This ONLY affects the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010 - and almost exclusively only those ones installed on Windows 7.

We have some machines affected but in Windows 10 1803 also.
Uninstalling KB4461529 corrects the crash.

They say they don't recommend uninstalling the update, but to use Web Access instead?? (Duh - like when you have 10-15 accounts none of which are outlook-based????)

MS claim to have fixed it by releasing another update via the download Centre - November 21, 2018, update for Outlook 2010 (KB4461585)

I'm going to see if it works without having the original patch installed, then attempting to install the old one.

The new patch seems to work, but there are some unexpected side-effects!

The installation appears to have added 50 new updates, according to Installed Updates - but doesn't itself appear in Update History.

yes, you did read that right, I did say 50 new updates (most of which are actually old updates)

Same here, exactly 50 old updates on a Win10 Pro x64 1803
Tested without uninstalling KB4461529 on a non affected machine, for now we won't install it on a users computer.

This is very interesting. I wonder if MS pulled the original Outlook update. In another thread, a person can't install that update. I don't have any problems right now with installing updates and I don't have that one installed. In addition, I don't have the patch so, I guess MS apparently didn't make it an update for everyone. I see today that I have two updates. Neither one mentions Outlook but one says it provides fixes to some things which were part of an update on 11/13/

Anyone care to expand on this.

MS did apparently pull the update. (at least, when I tried to get it out of my 'hidden' updates, it no longer appeared, and the patch seems to have installed fully)

It will probably be re-released next month as part of the monthly cycle - hence under a new KB number.

Hopefully, the continuing sagas in respect of QC issues in updates will lead to a rethink of their procedures!

Is there a similar patch for a 32 bit system?

So far as I am aware, there was no problem with the 32-bit version of the update, so no patching required.

who couldn't install the Outlook update (or other updates) on a 32 bit system. I had her hide the Outlook update and now she can install the Office updates. Verdict is still out on if she'll be able to continue to install updates.
