I have seen posts on KB983590 having failed, and responses from a "Flavius" on resolving the problem, but I also read that the resolution is different for each case. I am unable to install this update on my Win7 pro 32 bit machine. I have disabled AV and firewall, I have tried manual, I have ran the readiness tool, still no luck. Can anybody assist please?

Those are the only fixes I know of. However, manually updating your silverlight and .net framework to their latest versions will apply the same fixes as that update. .net 4.0 does not have the vulnerability and neither does the latest silverlight. The patch is actually about 6 months old now.

On the other hand if you already have the latest versions of both of those. That may explain why the update is choking.

Hi, WharfRat.

You didn't indicate what error message, if any, you have on the failure to install the .Net Framework update. This solution has helped others with the Windows Update error 80070002 with .Net Framework.

If that is not the error message you see if the error is on thelist of the most common Windows Update error codes at How to get support for Windows Update problems.

Also see Support for Microsoft Update technical problems - troubleshooting. If none of the troubleshooting issues describe your problem, click the "Get Help Now" link at the bottom of the page for no-charge support for the security update.
