Keep losing my internet connection.

For some reason I get disconnected for no apparent reason, turning the modem off and on or a restart usually fixes the problem for a few moments, I use www.dpreview a lot, is it possible the fault is there? I have run disk check, disc clean, defragged and all the other obvious solutions but to no avail, can anyone help me?

A few questions that will help in diagnosing the problem;

1. Wired or WiFI connection?
2. Is there a router?
3. Provider, such as; Comcast, CenturyLink, etc?
4. Is the location in a single family home or multi-unit building?
5. Are you using any security features on the system, such as a firewall?

I did have Microsoft security essentials but it got annoying, needing to do scans to often, so I removed it and downloaded avast, since then there has been an improvement.
