Hello.

I've been using Windows 7 for 4 years now so I assume there is no need to update 50 or more files.

When I shut down, my laptop begins updating. First, it was 51 files and it went extremely slow. Think it took about 4-5 hours. I checked windows update, and it still offered me 68 updates. So I shut down to update those 68 files. Again it took me forever to update and shut down ("shut down ..." message).

When I turn it on or restart, it takes some minutes too ("configuring" message).

After the update, I checked windows update, and there was no updates offered right after I turned on the laptop. But after few minutes, it offered 4, and now it's 15. The number of updates offered increases even though I ran updates several times.

I attached some images here.

I think the ones that repeat updates are the same files, but they have different KB#? I panic at these kind of troubles. Please help.

Don't muck with it - just let it update! Leave it alone to do its thing....different KB's are different updates.

That's what I thought so I let it update itself. But how many times do I have to update? And it takes unusually too long to update, shut down and start. Also it keep offers updates even though I updated several times.

On update history, failed updates were:

Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (NO KB#) -Date Installed 12/23/2014
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2952664) -Date Installed 12/23/2014

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2871997) Date Installed 12/22/2014

--
And offered updates are multiple files of the same file name with different KB #s & Sizes

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Also post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

Thank you, NoelDP

I am trying to remove CBSPersist cab files, but what if one CBSPersist cab file is more than 8MB? I have one that's 8.23MB and other two 20MB. How should I upload it to this post?

just remove it - it's likely to be irrelevant at the moment

I attached files. For CBS files I only left first part of it. (Should I remove all the CBS files on my CBS folder?)

I don't know where to get Windows Update Error Codes. Is that the one on the "review your update history"?

I'm a computer illiterate, so please bear with me if I ask dumb questions.

Thank you so much!

Thank you for your response. :)

I ran Fix It and installed 1 update after the notice popped up.

To make sure, I ran Fix It for two more times and I get the same message each time I ran Fix It.

Troubleshooting has completed

Problems found
Service registration is missing or corrupt - Fixed
Problems installing recent updates - Fixed
My question is,

If it's really fixed as the message shows, I shouldn't get the same Problems Found when I run Fix It again?

And I did not receive any errors listed in the Symptoms section. Would Fix It fix my problem when I don't have any "symptoms"?

I will have to restart my computer to check if the fix is really applied to my computer, but I just wanted to make sure before I restart because it will take forever to shutdown and restart if the problem still exists. Plus my computer often fails to connect to the wireless network, so in that case I will have to restart numerous times--taking too much time...

If you have access to a wired connection it might make your life a little easier.

How long have you been using McAfee?
