Is there a way to always keep the Windows Taskbar on top of all programs? There was a option in Vista but I dont see it in Windows 7 let me know if there is such a setting. Thanks :D

Hello MaDeMaNN, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You would just turn off Auto-hide in Windows 7 for this.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

i certainly don't have this problem. in fact, i think the taskbar is too on top! in xp i was able to drag, for example, the mini player from AIMP2 and set it on the taskbar. i can't do that in win7, because as soon as i click the taskbar, it buries the player :(

I'm having a similar issue. When i have the taskbar docked on the right hand of screen and then maximize Firefox it ends up covering the bar. Is there a way to make it so when I maximize a program it doesn't cover the taskbar? I am using the maximize button, and not the F11 command.

Thanks much!

Thats very odd. I just tested out docking my taskbar to the right and maximizing firefox, and no such probs.

Yeah, I've tested a lot of different win+insertbuttonhere commands and I wonder if I accidentally have set programs to on top. It's not just firefox, it's everything. No matter where I move the taskbar, and no matter the program, it covers it up instead moving right up to the edge like it would do for me in Vista. I'm not sure what is going on.

...and as a follow-up, if I have multiple instance of mozilla open and I try to do the preview by mouse-over, the preview images pop-up behind mozilla (which I found out thanks to the transparency). Also, I have tried using this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3101-taskbar-always-top-enable-disable.html - but I realized that I didn't use merge, instead I double clicked on it.

sorry, if this is spamming, but I'm kinda just walking through the steps of figuring this out. So, I ended up using that registry entry with merge, and it works, but now when I have firefox not maximized I end up having a bunch of solid blue lines replace the transparency of the taskbar. Not sure what is up with that, so I think I'll be using the registry entry to remove the first one.

...

Okay, so I ended up deleting the entire registry entry to let it reset it to it's default value. Now things don't cover the taskbar...but I still end up getting periodic transparency issues.

Hello Wonderflex, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It may be a issue with your graphic drivers. You might see if installing the latest Vista graphic card drivers may help as a test.

Going to piggy-back off this and hope it doesn't get me in trouble. The reason why I'm piggy-backing off of it is that my issue is very, very similar to what the original poster is going through:

I'm a fan of the auto-hide feature; I like keeping my taskbar out of sight until I need it. Now, back in XP, I could use that, but could set up the "Always on Top" feature so I just had to push my mouse cursor to the very top of the screen and then all of a sudden my taskbar would drop down - and push the program window down. Of course, this wouldn't happen in full-on games, but apps like Firefox, Chrome, and the such. Now, in Windows 7, I'm not seeing this option. Is there anything like it, or was it a feature that was taken out in the changes?

Hello Nealith, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The taskbar "Always on Top" feature has been removed/disabled in Windows 7. :(

Sorry,

I found a lame workaround to disable taskbar always on top.

First set taskbar to autohide. Start Task Manager, kill explorer.exe, taskbar will then disappear and no longer occupy space.

Taskbar always on top workaround

I have a workaround for having the taskbar not always on top.
I use a program called Object Dock plus.
I create my own taskbar, Quicklaunch (with tabs) and systray.
Then I check "Hide the windows taskbar"
You can find it here --> Stardock ObjectDock

I have the same issue like "wonderflex". Interesting about this is, it wasn't like that from the beginning! Just since some weeks I think. Might be after a Microsoft Windows Update? (Got 7 Pro x64 from MSDNAA)

It bugs me that esp. Media Players (AIMP2, KMPlayer, all the same issues) are hidden, but also sometimes Evernote and other programs. I also have to use F11 then, as I'm not able to drag the window or access the top bar anymore...anyone else experiencing this? (Auto-Hide off, Toolbar locked and "on top" (not bottom))

PS: Using the most current NVIDIA driver package for Win7x64.

My taskbar always stays on top, except when I select for Opera to go full screen, and I have "hide taskbar" always disabled. Of course, this is true even in XP, but I wish it were otherwise.
