Keeping Windows Genuine

More often than once I have started up my machine and had Windows tell me that it failed the genuine test.

Sure, most often I can just restart and all is OK, but that is a pain. Isn't there a way, once determined to be genuine to "lock" that in to the installation?

I saw an interesting one only last night. Out of nowwhere the "Build 7610" with "Evaluation Copy" under that water mark appeared out of nowhere along with a popup showing "This may not be a valic copy of Windows" which I promptly closed. When I decided to check for any updates and went into the Control Panel the water mark vanished instantly.

The WGA or Windows Genuine Advantage tool is the one option by simply re-entering the same product key when choosing the change product key option. How to Fix Windows 7 WGA | eHow.com

Temporary non-genuine notifications such as this are most often caused either by malware or by Anti-Virus programs.
They happen when a 'race condition' occurs , in which two (or more) programs compete for reqources. If on of the programs happens to be teh Software Protection system, and it's prevented from functioning for long enough, it will sulk, and put up the notification until either the machine is rebooted (and it wins the race) or a scheduled retest is completed.

No - there is nothing that will 'freeze' the activation status of your system without breaking the terms of your license.

That 's about one of the few temporary solutions you can try out.

This has happened a few times before with the retail 7 with the first seen in early November 2009 right after the first install then after SP1 final went on followed by the first install on the present build. Just last month after clean install of 7 was seen to which would seem to explain the water mark appearing out of nowhere again for those few seconds.

Through the last few years however the av programs have been changed with the new one not even noticeable when a scheduled scan starts up which was seen late sunday night not on any saturday. No malwares to find!
