I installed Windows 7 RC1 (7100) 64 bit on my wifes' Dell inspiron 1525 laptop.

Every was fine and dandy until my wife hit the "media direct" button instead of the power button to start the Laptop.

Now it just keeps on rebooting over and over....

Is there a way to stop it from trying to load media direct, of fix-it so it loads it correctly then be able to shut it down ?????

can you completely remove the power cable, and battery to stop it booting?

then try again without pressing the media button?

i've got an inspiron laptop too, and i wiped my media direct partition long ago...there's no option in my bios to disable the media direct button, but it's still worth having a look through yours to see if you can avoid this problem in the future.

I managed to stop the rebooting by holding the power button. Although when I tried to restart it again, it started rebooting over and over...

But after a few tries, without really knowing what fixed it, it started Windows 7 normally.

I've checked in the bios and didn't see an option to disable MediaDirect.

So for now on the Mediadirect button is a no-no.

the media direct os is on a seperate partition on the hard drive, invisible to windows - at least it was on my 3 year old inspiron 640m.

if you don't ever use it, i would suggest getting rid of it to avoid this happening again in the future. i wiped mine by using a linux liveCD and using gparted. this has the added benefit of reclaiming some hard drive space - i forget how much though.

note however, that it's a difficult procedure to reverse.
