8Hello!

I'm getting "Kernel Error (41)" error. This happens randomly. For instant when I'm gaming Modern Warfare 2, Prototype and Counter Strike Source.
The computer freezes, and I see stripes of two different colors in white/black, or other random colors.
I have to hard-reset my computer to continue, and I look in the Event Manager and see that I get "Kernel Error (41)" error.

System specs:
(or look at my system-specs in my profile)

I get this error in Event Manager:

Code:

[The system have restarted without shutting down right. Thir error can occur if the system unexpectly stopped responding, crashed or lost power.

Is there anyone out there that know of a fix?

The system is not overclocked.
I tried to set stock RAM timings and voltages in BIOS.
I changed RAM.
Changed graphic card.
ALL drivers updated.
Disabled ATI High Definition Audio.
Reset and update BIOS.

Is there anything else I can try to fix this?
Is it my power supply?

Thanks in advance!

Merely an intuitive accessment, but the fact that the problem occurs during games, and with the color changes, makes me wonder how you installed the video card and driver. Boot into Safe Mode, open the Device Manager and uninstall the display adapter. Select Show Hidden Devices...just in case there is a ghost of the previous video card (if there is, delete it), run Driver Sweeper to remove any remanents of the driver itself. Do not touch anything that says VGA, reboot to Safe Mode and reinstall the driver.

I sent it to the manufactor, and they cleaned installed everything, and updated the drivers.

Well, the manufactor is VERY good on support, and they are Norway's biggest netshop webside.

They changed my graphic card from 4870 to 5770 (cuz they though it was broken), and updated the drivers.

Total cost: $0

Hemulen, I'm having pretty much the exact same problem that you're experiencing. Built my machine about a year and a half ago, installed Windows Vista first and then downgraded to XP because I thought it was the OS, but no change. Currently running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and still getting the crashing. This happens during COD MW2, L4D2 and most recently BioShock 2. My screen will freeze and the sound will loop constantly until I power down the machine. I can usually get in about 30-45 minutes of gaming before it happens.

-Installed various Windows 0S
-Installed new Hard drive
-Installed new video card below (Original was a Nvidia 8800GT)
-Updated BIOS
-Updated all system drivers (Even tried to use older ones)
-I haven't tried over clocking the memory yet; however, judging by your results I don't know if I should even bother.
-End result: Still no resolution

If anyone has ANYTHING else to attempt, please let us know. I’ve been struggling with this for quite some time now.

CplRanger:

I noticed you had two 500GP WD hard drives.
Are you running these in RAID? Otherwise we both do. I tried to disable and disconnect with the SATA cable and power cord to my RAID hard drives. I tried to play the games that used to crash, and so far I have not seen a crash.

You could also try to get STOCK timings and voltages to your RAM as some motherboards can't set auto timings and voltages to your RAM.

Hemulen,

Sorry for the late response I was away for the weekend. Not running RAID.

I tried to "underclock" my FSB to match my RAM, it seemed to work for a few days, but then same thing, crashed .

I'll try and look into the voltage and timings for my RAM and see if these changes help. I'll update when I've looked into this. Thanks.

This thing will be the death of me.....(d)

Well, I know how frustrating it can be when buying a new video card and all you get is constant crashes or black out and even at times freezes up. I was ready to return this new gtx 550i card after experiencing such event for 4 days straight. Even with a clean install option with Nvidia.
Well, I could'nt believe when I went to add and remove option, there was still some Nvidia tools installed. Once I removed the performance and monitoring tools from Nvidia, all problems went away. To think I was going to send back a perfectly good working video card when all along it was indeed ok.
I'm just surprised noone else has solved this problem till I came along and hopes that this will help countless gamers get back into kicking butt.
Have fun!!!!
