Keyboard and monitor standby issues

Hello, I've been having these problems ever since I upgraded to 7 and honestly, they have me stumped. The first problem is that whenever I leave my desk, I lock my computer to prevent unauthorized access. However, sometimes when I come back and try to log in, the machine won't take my password and won't unlock. The only way I can get back into the computer at this point is to bring up the virtual keyboard by clicking the accessibility button in the bottom corner and typing my password in that way. The keyboard only seems to act up when the computer is locked and I never had this issue when I locked the machine with Windows XP. It seems kind of like the keyboard is typing the incorrect keys only at the log on screen and works fine everywhere else. My other issue also pertains to when the computer is locked. When my computer is not locked and I leave it alone for a few minutes, the monitors turn black and then turn off automatically by going into standby/power save mode. However, when I lock the computer and leave it alone after that, the screen only turns black, but the monitors still stay on forever, displaying a black screen. I would like the monitors to enter standby mode even when the computer is locked like it did in Windows XP. These two issues have me completely stumped. Any ideas?

1) Try a different USB keyboard

2) Try a different USB port

3) Install the monitor's drivers

4) Ensure the keyboard is properly plugged in.

5) Update all your drivers with the guide in my sig just in case.

I have tried most of those things but this is a PS/2 keyboard so I only have 1 port and it worked fine back in XP. When the keyboard starts glitching it beings typing in a succession of the keyboard right to left, no matter which key is pressed. examples are "4 567890_", "wyuiop[]a sd fghjkl;'`", "=qwertyui op []asd". I also now have a new issue with this computer when when I click the volume slider on youtube, the volume jumps all the way up to the top for a split second, creating a sudden blast in my speakers. This is on a recent reinstall of the OS and I am already seeing new problems. I'm beginning to think that this computer will never run 7 properly, which is weird since it passed the upgrade adviser and it meets all the system reqs.

Did you do a clean install? Try buying Microsoft's Wired Desktop 600. I picked one up for $15. USB keyboard and USB mouse.

I just did a clean install the other day. I backed up my personal files on an external, reformatted the drive, and reinstalled. The keyboard problem can be fixed by switching to another window and typing in that, then returning to the previous window. For that reason, I think that it is not the keyboard itself that is broken.

Might be the port. Try a cheap USB kit.

Probably being paranoid, but run a full system scan with malwarebytes anti malware after updating it.

Yes, although the keyboard may have a volume key out of whack. Rule out malware first though.

I am running the scan now. And the youtube problem happens when I adjust the youtube player volume slider with the mouse.

Anyways, I will post the results of the scan. This PC is really starting to get on my nerves because this is the 3rd time total I have redone the Windows 7 installation and each time, I get these irritating glitches. I am seriously considering going to Micro Center and building a completely new PC that can actually run Windows 7 properly with the absence of these awful glitches.
