Hi all! In searching for solutions, I came upon this site and think it's just great. After reading some of the posts, I have to be a member immediately.

I have been experiencing problems recently with my pc. For clarity, I will list them:
  1. For the past 2 to 3 weeks, my usb keyboard and mouse are inactive at start-up, therefore I am unable to login and go any further. I have to turn off and start again. After several turning on and off, it might work.
  2. I usually unplug my computer when I am not going to use it for some time (e.g. overnight) and although I properly power down before I unplug, I notice that as soon as it is plugged in, it starts to boot. This never usually happen. I should be able to plug it in, THEN turn it on whenever I want , as I used to do. This is also when the keyboard and mouse are inactive.
  3. Whenever this automatic boot occurs, and I turn on and off many times until the mouse and keyboard become active, my date and time always revert to sometime in 2002.
  4. The pc has also become very slow.
Please, I really need some help asap. I cannot afford to have this computer completely fail. Thanks much.

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums ... Look in your Bios Settings for an BIOS option auto power on after unexpected loss of power ... Should be in Power Options .. Looks like your Battery could need replaced ... There could be many other faults you have .. But lets see how that goes first ...

Your clock going back to 2002 when the power is unplugged is usually a sign of the CMOS battery being bad. It's usually just a small watch battery on the motherboard and you can get them just about anywhere. As for the KB and Mouse, when the bios reverts back to default the legacy support for USB could be getting set to disable.

Additional info:
During one of my many tries this morning, a screen came up showing specs for my computer but with the keyboard and mouse inactive during that time (and this was shown only for a split second) I used my camera to snap what was on the screen. I notice that a line at the bottom says about "Unknown BIOS error" etc. I am going to watch for this again and capture more of what is at the bottom of the screen. In the meantime I've attached what I was able to capture.

Sorry, I uploaded a file with the last correspondence - don't know what happened to it but I'll try again. Please remember also, that the message came up while the keyboard and mouse are inactive, so what I captured was with a camera. I am also going to send my BIOS power setting.

Sorry it took so long but I just got the opportunity to see that the error code is 0012. Two lines of additional information is below that but I couldn't catch it quickly enough. Will try and get that soon.

As dlc41 stated in post #5.
Your clock going back to 2002 when the power is unplugged is usually a sign of the CMOS battery being bad.
Have you replace your battery and reset everything.
After A/C power failure Stay Off
Time and date.

I turn off the power to my computer and everything hooked to them with a surge protector when ever my computers are shut down. If the cmos battery isn't good I will have the same problem you are having.

It takes 3 minutes and about $3.00 to take care of the battery problem.
I buy 3 batteries at a time. I have come across a bad new battery. Never hurts to have spares.

Let us know when this is done and the results.

Thank you all so much! I am happy to announce that I changed the battery yesterday, and since then, start-up has been back to normal. The keyboard and mouse activates on first boot, and the date is OK. This forum is awesome. All the answers seem to be here. Thank you all again.
