I don't remember asking before but am setting up a small 10" netbook for a friend and having problems with typing and the wrong characters coming out.
The first instance was " being typed instead of @ and vice versa. It turned out to be a time zone and date setting fix. The original owner had it set at GMT and the zone in the Pacific. So typing email addresses was until then impossible.
Now it is doing the same only with setting the UAC name "o" being typed as a "6" but not vice versa.I have checked the time / date and zone all ok so am left wondering if this small Acer Aspire D255E running 7 starter is maybe a lemon.
Anyone shed some light on the problem please?

Check your Keyboard Language - in Region and Language Settings -
Make sure that ALL the settings there are correct for the machine and your location, and the language you want to use for input.
Since you're in NSW, I would suggest
Formats - English (Australia)
Location - Australia
Keyboards and Lanuages - (click Change)
- General - English (australia)
- Language Bar - as you prefer
- Advanced - as you prefer
Administatrative - make sure that everything is properly defaulted.
Only THEN do you set the Time Zone, and system clock (in that order)

Along with what NoelDP has suggested while in Region and Language settings click on Additional Settings and there you will find Numbers, Currency, Time and date settings.
Thanks fellas I had reset the Admin UAC from the original owner who had it all set up wrong and I had got the settings right for, and thought that the settings would go across with the change of admin - UAC.
Well they did but with the one for the keyboard that the original owner had set did not. So back on track with the US > UK extended keyboard setup.
The time and region zones had stayed the same why the keyboard alone went over is a mystery that I am not going to lose any sleep over.
Help much appreciated
