Keyboard keeps changing language ... help.

Hi,

I have a danish version of Win7.

In the try (at bottom) I have a language bar where I can chose DK or EN. If I set it to DK then suddently it changes back to EN ... this is driving me nuts.

Any idea on how to prevent Win7 from changing my keyboard layout (language) automatically?

Apparently the shortcut to switch languages is Left Alt + Shift. This is easily pressed and can cause problems for multi language users. It's recommended that you either disable this function or change it to a combination which is harder to input by accident. One user suggests Left Alt + Shift + 0.

By default ALT-LEFT SHIFT is used to switch between languages. Far too easy to press these by mistake, especially if you're like me and prefer the keyboard to the mouse.

To change this, go into Control Panel/Regional Settings/Languages/Details and there is a button that allows you to configure the shortcuts to switch languages - I just disable it altogether.

You may also want to disable automatic detection of languages in Word (Tools/Languages), I think this may switch the keyboard layout to match the detected language.

Well I already disabled the keyboard shortcuts (set it to none) - sry for not writing it in previeous post.

Hmmm this is strange.

Check the keyboard settings. There may be two settings: "Switch input language" ('alt+tab') and "Switch keyboard layout", which is by default 'ctrl+shift'.

If you frequently use 'ctrl+shift+esc' for reaching Task Manager, that maybe causing problems..

Windows shouldn't change the keyboard layout automatically, but it remembers the individual language settings to every application as long as the application is running. To reset the input language to default, the application (process) must be ended and relaunched, or the input language manually changed.

For instance, if you open Notepad and IE, default input language being Danish, and you change input language in Notepad to English, you'll notice that toggling between Notepad and IE the input language is changing between Danish and English; every time Notepad is active, the input is set to Danish, and switching back to IE changes the input to English.

I'm not sure if this helps you, it's just that the most common explanation to a sudden input language change seems to be that user has forgotten to reset language in one or more applications to default, seeing language changing every time when switching active application.

Hello,

I have solved this problem by doing the following:

1. In "Region and Language" - tab-> Keyboards and languages->change keyboard->add->choose your language

2. In "Region and Language" - tab-> administrative->change system locale-> choose your language/country

by No. 2 I achieved my goal. Now I have special characters in notepad, Google search tab. all over the place where language for unicode programs was English.

Therefore when switching applications the language stays and does not switch back to default locale which was ENGLISH.

I.E. VERY HELPFUL FOR THOSE WHO WATCH MOVIES WITH SUBTITLES(notepad) and it does not display foreign characters. THIS SOLVES THE ISSUE.

i solved it, and the info in this thread sort of lead me to it, but not exactly for my case at least.

i'd be in apps and the keyboard layout would change (i like having international and US available so i can do accents if need be).

i learned form this thread (did not know before!) that hitting ctrl+shift does indeed change keyboard layout. however, on going into:

control panel > region and language > keyboard and languages (tab) > change keyboards (button) > advanced key settings (tab)...

when i got here there was no mention of ctrl+shift, but clicking Between input languages (if not already selected) and 'change key sequence' button shows the hidden Ctrl + Shift on right side. changing it to not assigned solved my problem - i'll just set it from the system tray icon popup menu.
