Hello Everyone,

I would like to utilise some old PC's running Windows 7 Enterprise. I wanted to upgrade the machines to Windows 10 Pro (we can buy the licences).
The current build of the machines are currently locked to an inactive domain with GPO's applied, they are heavily restricted. The restrictions keep forcing me into a wall, so I thought I would seek outside ideas.

1.) Every time the PC boots with USB keyboard and mouse they will not work. If I boot into BIOS or from DVD they work fine. This severely hampers what I can or cannot do. If I boot into Safe Mode, they stop working. I am assuming the original keyboard and mouse are locked via the ID numbers of the devices. I have tried to reset the GPO's by deleting the <windir>\System32\Group Policy files, however I am unable to run gpupdate /force for the system to accept the files.

2.) I thought trying to upgrade directly to Windows 10 may interfere with the GPO's and allow the Keyboard & Mouse to work. However I am getting an error stating the HDD needs to be in a GPT format to continue with the installation. I assume the server dealt with the Windows activations as the keycode for all our machines are the same and they all contain the same digits. Therefore I don't think the insert Windows 7 key on Microsoft's website and download the ISO will work.

3.) I have looked at repairing the PC or restoring from a previous image however none are available.

I looking for idea and suggestions if anyone can help.

Welcome to the forum. Chances are that it activates not from MS but local kms server so if you have a key your only option is to delete all partition leaving the disk blank then boot 10 and let it create gpt parition etc make sure bios is set to secure boot and uefi
