Hey all, long time lurker, first time asker. I know this topic has been covered before, but I cant think of the verbiage to pull it up in a search. Anyways, I am having an issue where when I type, i'll get about 7 words in to a sentence and the curser will skip back a few words and continue typing. I thought I had all the drivers installed, but I'm not sure if this is a bug, or a defective driver. Anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance =)

Are you on a laptop? Does it have a physical touchpad? If so, that type of "wandering cursor" symptom can sometimes be caused by accidentally touching an overly sensitive touchpad with the palms of your hands while you type.

That would be almost entirely random though. If what you're experiencing literally affects every 7th word, even if you type very, very carefully, then there's some sort of software purposefully doing that.

hi seankanary, and welcome to sevenforums, the place to be,

we could probably help you better if you gave us some more info - please go to your user control panel (see User CP) link towards the top of the page, and take the time to fill out your system specs.

are you using a USB keyboard - and have you tried a different one?

Ok, My laptop specs are updated.

@H2S04, It is a laptop with a physical touch pad... However, I am very careful not to let my palm drag over it. Ive gone to the HP web page and downloaded all the applicable drivers, but still no change.

OK, sometimes the touchpads themselves are sensitive to the point where looking at the darn thing seems to be enough. I'd suggest you at least try to see what happens while the touchpad is entirely deactivated, or just deactivate "tapping" - the interpretation of a hard(er) tap as a click.

No probs. I'm practically unable to use most laptops until I've deactivated tapping, for this very reason.

One thing to check - is there an option in the driver control panel to de-activate the trackpad when typing?

I have seen this in some Synaptics drivers - there is also normally a delay setting for automatically re-activating the pad which may need some experimenting to set suitably for the way you work.
