hey! i got a set of 4 sticks of ram ( 16 gb) . the stock speed they give is 1333 MHZ
and i want to change timing clocks , add a little voltage as well to squeeze the max of it ( of course with add cooling)
now, my motherboard (asus M4A88t-M) doesnt have AI TWEAKS options that makes the over clock easier .
in bios , in the ram OC section, there's a lot of short names (around 13) that has a clock speed for each one, and i dont know what should i change to lower timings ,and how much for get a-1600 (that must be working, because this ram officially supports it ) and maybe a bit more, some around 1700 mhz...

and in the real world you wont see any performance gain from faster ram speeds.
I run my 1866mhz ram at 1333mhz, mainly as i cant be bothered to increase its stock voltage to 1.65v.

You won't see any performance gain, unless your the type of person who edits full 1080p videos in real time, and even then its not the difference between night and day.

If the maximum bandwidth for your cpu is 1333mhz then having faster will give you no gain. And like stormy said you might not even be able to run all 4 sticks at 1600

well thank you for your answer...
one last question :
how do i see the difference between 4 GB that i had once and 16 gb that i have now ?
i mean, windows had enough of 4 GB to run smoothly games, win itself and multitasking wasnt that bad, now when i got 16 im not really sure what ive done :D ..*stupid*\

btw thats the reason i wanted to squeeze the max of these ram stick for ,maybe, get some difference and feel it

Well you've basically just answered your own question. You don't need 16gb or ram, your system was fine before with 4.

Add ram these days doesn't give the performance boost that it used to, anything over 4gb and you won't notice the difference, it will just be able to cope with more.

If you want a performance boost, I suggest getting an SSD :) that will make things go whooooosh! That will make it feel like a whole new computer

You are using AMD which will always hold the RAM to 1333 mhz even thought it is 1600mhz

Only way to increase if you are overclocking the CPU so you will be forced to increase ram speeds

Other then that simply Oc'ing the ram won't do much

Most AMD boards will hit the 1600mhz mark but off of OC'ing and 16 gigs of ram won't help you achieve it

If you try 8 gigs more do-able then 16 more ram more issues when trying to Overclock

I hope this explains it a little better

Not entirely true, depends on whether the IMC disagrees or not. Mine is quite happily running with the ram at 1600 MHz without upping the HT, and only upping the multi for the CPU and manually setting the ram at 1600 MHz,

In subwoffer's case as mentioned previously I doubt that it will run that speed just from it being 4 sticks instead of 2.

Sounds like upgrading to more RAM was just a waste then...If you don't see the difference, what was the point? I don't think "most" people benefit at all from having more than 4GB of RAM. The only thing that I do which uses more than 4GB of RAM is run concurrent virtual machines.

I think most of us did the OC without touching the HT/ Cpu multiplyer and ram adjustment to 1600mhz That's how i got my OC

Stormy this just means you all are good teachers ;)

Agree

This is a known AMD IMC issue.
It seems to work at 1600MHz and above for some but, quite a few others can't get past 1333MHz.

You can get an idea of the difference between the two here,

DDR3 Memory Scaling On AMD's Phenom II X4 : Which RAM Speed Is Best?

Then there is this as well,

[H]ard|Forum - View Single Post - does AMD Phenom II X6 1090T support memory above 1333MHz?

which I just tested on mine using Everest's built in memory tests (forgot to do the copy while at 2000 on the NB),

View attachment 190392

Also forgot to run winsat mem while at 2000 but it was around 15000 MB/s, and after bumping the NB to 2400 got this,

View attachment 190393

Thanks for the info and links, have been looking for a good explanation and work around for this.

This will be great for the OC'ers and Enthusiasts, may be a bit difficult for the average user.
