"Known Compatibility Issues"

Basically, I installed a new program and a window popped up saying there are known compatibility issues, when I did an update to that program. I suspect that one of the downloaded update files is not compatible with the Windows 7 RC (I re-installed the program again and it worked fine, but the same problem occurred when I did the updates). I ticked the "Do not show again box" and clicked on "Run program anyway". This made the initial program corrupt. My question now is, how do I undo this? How do I make that file not run again (because I clicked on "Do not show again" didn't I). Is there a settings page somewhere to undo this?

i'm not sure i understood your post, but did you want the program not to run again?

can you not just uninstall the program?

Well, I installed Norton Internet Security 2009. Everything worked fine. I did a Live Update and it prompted me to restart my laptop. I did another update after I restarted and that's where the problems started to begin. I'm assuming a file was downloaded which is not compatible with Windows 7. A pop-up in the task bar appeared suggesting I should not run it (it was either "known compatibility issues" or "driver blocked due to incompatibility"). I clicked on "Run it anyway" and ticked "Do not show again".
But yeah I un-installed Norton and re-installed it again and everything worked fine again. But when I did the updates again - Norton did not start up and I couldn't open it and the CPU was near to 90%. When I opened the Task Manager to see what caused this, it was the same .exe that Windows warned me earlier about compatibility issues.

What I would like to do now is to "block" that file (Windows gave me two options - "Run this program anyway" "Do not run it"). But because I ticked the "Do not show again" box, I am not able to do this. Is there any other way to do this?

Use the Norton Removal Tool to remove most traces of the program. Free here: Download and run the Norton Removal Tool
You might want to run it in Compatibility mode for ALL USERS and as "Run as Windows Vista" and "Run as adminstrator".

If that doesn't fix it, then you're in for some registry diving. Even with the removal tool Norton will leave a bunch of stuff on your system (it took me and another tech 4 hours to remove enough to permit a reinstall with a corrupted date on it. Many of the keys are obfuscated so you can't easily tell what it is. Be sure to backup your registry before trying this as it can easily render your system unbootable.

You may want to contact Norton support to see if they've got a solution for this issue.

Thanks for your help. I have uninstalled Norton before with this removal tool and it worked.
However, it's Windows which is permiting the file ('InstStub.exe' - which I told Windows to do so) to run, even though it is not compatible with this version of Windows. Is there no way to undo this?

Once you uninstall it it won't run unless you load it again.

But I'd like to keep the software though. I'm assuming there is nowhere where I could change this setting? I've looked everywhere

How about installing Norton Internet Security 2010 or Norton 360 3.5 which are designed for Windows 7?

Norton 2009 will be compatible very soon.

Symantec has consciously chosen to not support Win7 until it is on the market.
The Win7 builds were following each other so fast it was impossible for them to keep up.

Now the RTM is available to the OEM's it won't be long for the fix to come.

Meanwhile you can indeed install the 2010 beta. It will give you 15 days, and you'll have to prolong it every 15 days.

Yes, well I've already tried out the beta and was very happy with it. However, it only let me extend the trial period once. That's why I've uninstalled it and installed the 2009 version (I found a 90 day trial). But it looks it wont even last for a week on Win 7. Ah well lol
