Kotor crashing?

I'm having some problems running kotor 1 in 7. Kotor 2 works fine, but the first one crashes every time as soon as I get to lower taris. I've tried everything in this link:

and no luck, I've replaced the mss32.dll file and run everything in compatability mode for xp sp2, and it still does it. The game runs perfectly smooth up to the point, and I cant get past it. Any suggestions?

I do not know if this is your problem but back when i played it the first time it always crashed at the same part as you are describing and that made me end up doing EVERYTHING at the upper levels but i eventually got it to work by going and turning off the grass in the settings i do not know why this made it not work but it did!

Wasn't Kotor 1 more for Win98 than XP, I would try going to the executable file and run it in compatibility mode, let Win7 choose what mode to give you.

Also, even though the game is old (loved the game btw), I would uninstall and install fresh drivers (video and audio) as sometimes they get corrupted when installing games and/or multiple crashes occur. Of course this is not 100% guaranteed to happen, I am just going by experience and the fact that it only costs me a few minutes to do this.
