Hi all,

Very confused....

Visited the Gigabyte website today to see if there were any updated drivers for my mobo. I found a newer version of the "Realtek LAN Driver" (dated FEB this year, I havent updated them since I built this PC last year, so I figure that its an update)

Now when I go into the Device Manager, under Network Adapters it says I have the

"Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller"

In the readme doc from the downloaded driver from Gigabyte it says its a

"Realtek FE/GbE Family Controller"

So is it the wrong driver? There are no other LAN drivers on the Gigabyte site for my mobo and there is no reference to the "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" on Realteks site. WTF !!! (Did a search on the Realtek site.....worst interface ever BTW)

I assume that they are different products, I could be wrong??
Should I just leave it alone (if it ain't broke......)

My mobo is the P55A-UD5 Rev1 and latest BIOS F12

Any help would be great

cheers for the quick response, ok so I'll give it a go, can always roll them back.
Another nOOb question, are there any benifets from updating LAN drivers, do you get better download/transfer speeds?

PS Sorry just realised, should have posted in the "drivers" section.

Sometimes it's a stability issue, or something like that. You will not NOT benefit from it, but you might not get any noticeable change.

Release notes from Realtek are rare. It would be interesting to see what the issues were.

Usually with simple communication devices like that the primary thing they are changing is power management stuff. Vista and win 7 seem to handle power management in slightly different ways. It would be more stability related than 'your speed will magically increase now'.
