Hello everyone,

I previously had Ubuntu installed, but just installed windows 7 professional with service pack1, 32-bit X86 Full.

It seems that I can't connect to the internet though. Not via the wire(LAN) or wireless.

When opening up device manager the following is located under OTHER DEVICES:

Ethernet controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Network controller
O2Micro SmartCardBus_Reader

They all have the same error when double clicking:
" The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"

I have tried to Search automatically for updated driver software but nothing so far.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

- Fred

Hi Fred,

Is this a Laptop or PC? If it's a laptop what is the make/model and if its a PC what is the make/model of the motherboard?

Once we have this information we can help you to download and install the correct drivers.

Paul.

Import the ethernet or wireless driver first so that optional Windows Updates can deliver more and newer drivers. Go to the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or network adapter device. If you need to trace the make/model use Hardware Identification.

Any drivers still missing after updates can be found in the same way.

@ paulpicks21: The laptop is a DELL LATITUDE D600 (Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 1400 MHZ 1.40 GHz with 512 MB ram.

@Gregrocker: First of all I apologize since I am not the sharpest in computers. I tried the pcidatabase.com but I am not sure what to do after the vendor details.

Hi Fred -

Go here and put in the Service tag number for your laptop: Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

Download the Ethernet (wired) or Wireless LAN driver for your laptop, unzip and run it as Administrator. You should then have a list of networks accessible by left clicking on the network icon in the bottom right corner of your desktop on the task bar. If not rightclick on the same icon to run Troubleshooter.

Once you're online go to Windows updates to search for updates which should include drivers under optional Windows Updates. After all Updates are completed, any drivers still missing in Device Manager can also be imported from the Dell Downloads webpage for your tag number.

In the future follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 then save a Win7 backup image so you never have to reinstall again.

I tried to find the Service Tag under my laptop and it seems to be 932RY(only combination that makes sense) but there are no downloads available.
I then selected my product instead as DELL Latitude D600 but now I have a bunch of choices.

Sorry for all the trouble!!

Please look more closely at the tag number, with a magnifying glass under strong light. It should be six characters and say clearly Service tag #. It might be under battery.

If you don't have service tag then from the list of Network controllers on the downloads page you'll need to determine using Hardware Identification on the missing Ethernet and Network controller which is your ethernet and/or wireless adapter so you can install the correct driver.

You can also try downloading and installing each until you find one that will install.

At a guess, I would say it could be the 2nd drivers down on the "Network" section for your laptop.

It's only a guess though.

It's working!!
After finding the TAG number which indeed was under my laptop in small letters I was able to fix the problems.

Thanks guys!
I wouldn't have been able to fix it without your input. I truly appreciate it!
