Language Pack Installation a total nightmare on Windows 7

... just like File Transfer and Explorer crashing constantly!

Been the whole day trying to get the Spanish Language pack installed ion this my wife's Windows machine, should have bought her a mac - I knew Windows was asking for trouble!

What I have tried so far:

1) downloading a .Net cleanup tool and manually deleting failed .Net 4 installations that update reied installing... Following 4 attempts to install the language pack via the updater I thought this might be the culprit... but having since been able to update all the failed .Net 4 fixes, this is obviously not the proplem!
2) Downloading and trying a manual install having done a dll cleanse via ccleaner between step one and this... Still nothing doing!
3)Attempted installs following a selective start up, clean boot and safe mode start... still nothing doing
4) expanding the downloaded pack and trying to install it via the installer...

8 hours later I am pulling my hair out!

Never once got horrors like this on Mac in 6 years and with WIndows every day is a nightmare.

Please help me fix this so I can get out of hell as fast as possible and back to paradise where I can get sone real work done instead of rebooting every 5 minutes and fixing dlls and issues like this every hour!

Thanks Qdos but non of them halp - though the shortcut ould come in handy while troubleshooting!

My problem is I cannot install the darn thing! cannot get it to show up in the optiions!

Fails every time with Error Code 80070643 and I have been through about 20 forums today and am still going round in circles chasing my tail!

What I want to do is get the Spanish language pack installed KB2483139 and set spanish as the display language for the missus's account while maintaining English as the main administrative language... Seems impossible! With windows the simplest things are always unfathomably difficult... Swings and Roundabouts and handbags to boot,... unlike on Mac... a walk in the orchard! WIll never buy another Micro$oft product of any description if I can help it - utter rubbish! But blasting it aside... I would like to try an get this crock I have working so I can let the missus get on with it! I have long since given up trying to solve the frequent explorer crashes and whitescreening, That horrendous background file indexing system (the green bar thingy in the address field in explorer) and The woeful (and that's an understatement) file transfer speeds even on internal drives... Took something lioke 3 and a half hours last night to transfer around 90 Gb,,, This morning I went into mac and moved that same 90 Gb back to it's original location in around 20 minutes! I have RDC turned off and have applied the netsh fixes in Cmd prompt too... Fat lot of difference it makes. Sick of Microsoft making excuses and second rate fixing advice...Typical! Seems the only solution to fixing Windows 7, Vista and XP... is upgrading to 98 SE or possibly 2000!

Should add that I have been trying to solve the explorer crash and file transfer riddle since Vista came out... and so have several thousand others by the looks of it,,, so my 'rant' is not without just cause!

Did you perform a clean install, or an upgrade?

Many people have had trouble with systems which were created by way of upgrading...

I find Windows Seven has some security annoyances, but is otherwise very stable indeed, and compared to Mac... LOL... I have to say... there's much wider compatibility...

Clean!!! I am also on a Hack as opposed to a Mac.. I was that desperate to get away from windows which I was forced to 'put up with' after my iMac died,,,, that I finally discovered what hackintosh was all about. The mac I bought in late 2007 having thrown my Inspiron 8600 against the wall! 13 years of misery with Microsoft... it warranted a plane ride to Miami to buy the iMac which served me perfectly for more than 3 years apart from a faulty graphics chip which eventually died. Long stry but I did not buy apple care because of the country in which I was living: Venezuela. No chance of getting it repaired! Not sure what you are talking bout in terms of compatibilty but my hack is way more compatible with stuff I use than Windows... Windows generally comes with Crap software and more bugs, dll issues, updared and registry fixing etc than I care to worry about anymore... if that's your cuppa rosie then you're totally welcome to it! Only issue I have is that I have aSamsung Galaxy Mini and Samsung chose not to support it on Mac... Last product I'll be buying from Samsung then! No problem supporting their top end phones though!
More and more stuff is becoming compatinble with mac by the day and there are a handful of apps I used to use on WIndows that I run perfectly well in Wineskin on Mac =)

Anyways, the missus says she can 'make do' with the English display language... but thats what pisses me off all the more the fact that I have spent all day on this and still no joy. Another pureply pleasureable Microsoft heroin hit to add to the rest of the catalog of other Narcissistic joys like the white screens, explorer crashes, file transfer crawls, registry screwups, dlls gone missing or that disn't instal properly! Thankfully I am more of an Acid head so don't bother with this crap personally.. much prefer them groovy colours and actual productivity on OSX... apps install like a dream and equally so are as simple to get rid of as waving a virtual magic wand! =) =) =)

PS - if it had been an update I would have gone back and done a clean install before posting here. Since I spent around 3 days installing, reinstalling apps and copying back user data and some appdata (in the case of firefox user data) and have now seemingly got the system finally updated properly apart from this MAJOR FAIL, the last thing I want to do is repeat the whole process all over again and likely wind up right back here... as experience has shown me time and again with Windows. It's back to OS X for me tomorrow and I'll look in on this thread for something useful that I might not have tried... but I shall n't be holding my breath for long! If it wasn't for that blasted Corel Draw I'd move her onto Mac and tell her to kick her Windows habit for once and for all! Nasty one that!

Pleased to say I managed to fix this issue myself - nothing to thank Micro$hit for though of course. I'd be waiting til my great grandkids hit their 50's and then some before that shower of W**k*rs ever gave out useful advice... other than "buy a Mac", which they never will of course.

Seems that in order to install a language pack on Win 7 Ultimate at any rate one if not two conditions be met, Remember I mentioned I am operating in a Multi-boot environment.... Well the way my rig is set up It boots OS x 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) first, then OS X 10.7.2 (Lion) second, then Ubuntu and last,,,WinCrap. Furthermore in order to boot into Mac first and have all the others available as boot options Sata needs to be configured as AHCI

It seems that WinCrap wants to be Numero Uno and the first boot device and also that it MUST be set to IDE in order for this update to take... what this means is that one must go into the registry and set the following values back to 3 (ie IDE) , reboot, set the Sata config in bios to IDE and boot into Windows. Then and only then will the update succeed.
Once the patch has taken one reverses the process - switching both values back to 0, rebooting, going back into the bios and resetting sata configuration to AHCI.

Finally all is well...

1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click one of the following registry subkeys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

DMT is way better than Heroin.... so get off your Narcissitic Windows trips everyone and come over to Mac where a world of colour and productivity awaits =) No days lost trying to work out solutions as to why WIndows "simply doesn't cut it" and sticking your head in the sandbox of myriad forums that offer utterly useless 'expert' advice,,,

You likely won't find the solution I just posted in 100 forums cos windows likes to be Fascist too expecting everone to boot it as their No.1 OS and subscibe to their very broken philosophies much as they forced the utterly garbage Intenut Exploder on everyone... bout as bug-free as a hotel in downtown Philadelphia ... so naturally they will never post real solutions like this... because they simply don't know what the f**k they're at in the first place... let alone how to remedy issues like this!
