Lap-top roaming signal

How can I find out if my laptop would be able to pick up my emails in a particular location without having to subscribe to a provider before-hand. I am thinking of transferring to BT who have this facility but can't for the life of me get a positive response from any-body about this.

Sorry, stateside so assume this is the BT? See if you find coverage on their mobile signal map (1st link at top)

You might also register at their forums, and ask "does anyone here live in XXXX and if so, do you get good coverage there?", etc.
