I tried to shut down my laptop, the "Installing update, do not shut down or power off your computer" screen appears but my battery died during the update. And now when I startup the "Launch start up repair" appears and when i click it, I get stuck on a blue flower wallpaper screen thing and nothing appears. All i can see is the wallpaper and the mouse cursor. How do i fix this?

Hello mdzbkr, welcome to Seven Forums!

The easiest first thing to try is a system restore to a point before the failed update, if you can't get into Windows to do the restore, have a look Option Two of this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

If you are trying to repair a PC with the SP 1 installed you will have to use a repair CD created from a PC including the SP 1 to be successful.

Just a thought... Is there a tutorial on creating a slip-streamed DVD and adding SP1 to an existing image?

Laptop turned off during update install SOLVED?

I have Windows 7. I was installing updates like normal but it was taking forever. So I turned of my laptop. When Windows started I chose to start normally over Safe Mode. It started configuring Service Pack. At 30% it restarted on its own and continued with the Service Pack install. When it finished Windows was back to normal. Don't know if this helps anyone but I guess what I learned was that I was good to let Windows run its course. Don't always assume the worst of it could cause further problems.

The only update problem I`ve ever encountered is when the pc is taken more then 15 or 20 minutes to shutdown. I just did a reset and it restarted just fine and configured the update. Hope we don`t see any more service packs for a while.

Why would one need to shut it down if it tells you not to? You're not using it anyway so just let it run.

If it's still running when you come back then boot into Startup Repair, let it System Restore or run that from the Recovery tools list.
