I have a HP G62-371DX Notebook that I have been using to access the internet. Lately I have been experiencing random disconnects that will last from maybe 30 seconds to 2 minutes. They will happen maybe every hour or two and are becoming really annoying. At first I was using the laptops wifi abilities to connect to my router. So when these disconnects began to happen I tried plugging in an Ethernet cable into the router and still experience the same disconnects. The only other devices in the house that experience this is the xbox 360 which is connected with an ethernet cable aswell. The router that I had was an old netgear router, but in the past week we got a new router which is a SMCD3GNV. I have only had it working today and I had the problem maybe 3-4 times within the first 12 hours (with both the wifi and ethernet connection). I have tried updating the firmware and resetting the router and modem. I just don't know what the problem is or how to fix it.

Hi,

If this issue started occurring after doing some recent software changes on your computer, then I would suggest you to restore your system back to a date when it was working fine. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only.

I have not added any new software or done any changes. It kind of started happening randomly and only seemed to get worse and worse over time.

Hi there,

In addition....When you reset the router and modem is it a soft reset, sort of rebooting them or you performed a hard reset and then reconfigure the router?
I have tried updating the firmware and resetting the router and modem.

Well I think it is a soft reset because I don't really know what a hard reset is. I unplug it from the power and wait like a minute or two and replug it.

If there's more than 1 device is affected perhaps a hard reset is necessary then reconfigure your router again, make sure to back up your current router setting before you proceed.
