Laptop batteries

I don't have a laptop but I know a few people who would never buy a desktop. Their reasons are usually that they like to tidy up after using their computer, they don't have space to spare and the portability of a laptop suits them fine. I always remind them to make use of the battery to maximise it's life but I seem to get the same response every time, they run on mains power and to hell with batteries. A laptop without batteries could have the psu in the space where the batteries were and be more ecologically friendly and cheaper. What do you think?:sarc:

Tinmar49, The main reason would be that not that many people would buy one. Most people are looking for a laptop to be portable. The battery is necessary.

Also, it is a myth. Using the battery is not going to extend its life. Lithium batteries in laptop today do not have the same problems Nickle batteries had. Keeping the laptop plugged into mains most of its life is not going to harm a modern laptop or its battery.

Ah but if plugged in 100% of the time they do build memories and as such I remove my desktop lappies battery and then just slip it back in to charge before taking on the very occasional to go trip. If the lappy is taken from it's line source then just leave the battery in.

These friends of mine don't use their batteries, they just seem to want a pc that packs away instantly.
