Stay away from Acer. Eveything I and friends had that were Acer were unreliable garbage (support is also lousy). HP is another brand to stay away from but only because of poor support (which is a pity since the hardware is almost bulletproof).

All the Acers I've known, including the three I have had, have been solid workhorses that offer decent performance for the money.
And mine have always been used heavily (they've been used by somebody pretty much non-stop every day), we've even still got the second one which is six years old and still bulletproof; I'm starting to think it'll outlive me! :shock:
Are you calling me a liar? I reported my and friends' experiences with Acer products. I had two Acer Aspire One netbooks that failed. The first one died one month out of warranty. The keyboard developed sporadic key bounce (a character would print more than once when the key was normally momentarily pressed) a few month after I got it. That machine didn't get much use.
Before the first notebook died, I got an Acer desktop machine. The Acer mouse that came with it was useless because it used a single piece of flimsy plastic for the top and the left and right click buttons. I was constantly "palm clicking" it just from the weight of my hand. I replaced it with the seven year old one that came with my previous desktop, an old Gateway that dated back to when they still had their own stores. the keyboard was ok wasn't anything spectacular. The big problem I had with it was it was USB. Both it and the mouse ate up two of the only four USB ports on the rear I/O panel. There were two PS/2 ports also on the rear I/O panel. Replacing the mouse and keyboard with the superior, albeit seven year old, ones from my old Gateway freed up those two USB ports that I needed for other things. What was really stupid was Acer put four USB ports on the front panel. Six on the back and two in the front would have made far more sense. A year after I got the POS, it started having multiple problems, such as dying HDDs (I had to replace three in that machine in the first two years) and the RAM died. Not just one of the two sticks; both of them. I had problems with Acer drivers getting messed up and the dialup modem died a year and a half in. The PSU was marginal for one HDD yet there was room for two. It was because of the problems I had with that thing and the expense to have someone fix it that prompted me to learn how to build my own.
Just before I started having problems with the Acer desktop, I replaced the first Aspire One with a second one. That one died just a few months into the warranty. By that time, I was so disgusted with Acer products, I chucked the thing (after salvaging the HDD) even though it was still under warranty and went to an Asus which I had much, much better luck with.
I had several friends have similar problems with their Aspire Ones; early failure and keyboard bounce.
I'm glad you had good luck with your Acer products but just because you did, doesn't mean anyone who did have problems are talking nonsense. Based on the mixed user reports I have seen, Acer apparently is hit and miss with the quality of their products; some are good, others are mung. I do not feel it's worth the gamble that one might get lucky.
